So I saw the surgeon today for the pre-op for my resection (now 6 days away). Question - the forms indicate epidural not PCA. Is that good or bad?

hmm... i think if i were you, i'd call up the surgical dept and query this - my PCAS was via an epidural, as described here in Wiki....

Patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) is a related term describing the patient-controlled administration of analgesic medicine in the epidural space, by way of intermittent boluses or infusion pumps. This can be used by women in labour, terminally ill cancer patients or to manage post-operative pain.

so, the fact that they've worded it 'epidural' might actually mean you'll get the general anesthesia for the operation through that site, and the PCAS as well, for post surgery pain.

thanks dingbat. It could very well be that epidural itself is the PCEA you describe, and the "PCA" is something else on this particular form.
