Failed stoma takedown?

I am wondering if anyone of you have ever had a resection with a temporary colostomy, had a takedown, but then have had to had the colostomy put back in. If this has happened to you, could you please tell me what the circumstances were?

My surgeries were in 2010, and I did ok for about a year after the takedown, but now I am miserable, unless I stay on a liquid diet or am on prednisone.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Is anyone able to help? I've had a Stoma reversal but not had it put back again. If anyone has any advice it'd be appreciated.

Hugs x

Thank you, Lucinda, but I just read my thread and am in horror... I had the reversal, but did NOT have it put back in! How I could screw up my wording that badly is beyond me. What I meant to say is that my colon "feels like" it would like to be back in! If I am not on a course of steroids, unless I follow a liquid diet, I constantly get partially obstructed. It is as though the contents of my colon just stop at the reconnection spot, as though it just want to pop right through. Definitely some type of blockage, and it is only getting worse; and quite scary at times, when I have eaten much. It is so bad at times, I feel like it is going to perforate. The safest thing to do is just to stay on liquids and very low residue, but for some reason, I actually have an appetite lately, and I have been throwing caution to the wind, which I think could get me into real trouble!

Sorry for the miscommunication- just not thinking straight!

If you were ok for a year but you feel that spot may be problematic I am thinking you may have developed post-op scar tissue in the area. Have you had imaging or colonoscopy recently?

I did have a colonsocopy in July from a GI that was new to my case- I am not sure it he even went in that far. Also, he did it while I was on prednisone. He did not see a problem then, but I did ask that if there had been a stricture, would he dilate it? He said no...he does not take care of that kind of thing. So.. I should go back to my original colon surgeon, who has done previous colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy, both times doing a balloon dilation. I also need a CT or ultrasound. It is just annoying, when I am pushed around from specialist to specialist. (like I know most of you are too!)

Sorry to be so crabby this morning- it is the worry about money and doctor bills.
