Two weeks ago I had a MRI Enterography and Colonoscopy. The MRI results were normal and the Colonoscopy couldn't find any sign of Crohns. The biopsy came back and said only 1 out of 6 samples taken had granulation so they couldn't diagnose Crohns. I was told to stay unmedicated and come back in 4 months for a GI check up.

I also had a Fecal Calprotectin which came back with a result of 120. My GP said normal is between 0-50 but he's not a GI he can't tell me exactly how inflamed that is on the scale of things.

Does anyone have any idea what this means? Should I be alarmed?

I think there are other issues besides Crohn's that could cause a high fecal calprotectin.

What else could it be?

My GI doesn't want to see me because there's not enough evidence for Crohns and my GP doesn't know what to do either lol. I've heard too many horror stories to want to just ignore these signs.

That fecal calprotectin result isnt very high. <50 is the normal reference range for some labs but others have an NNR of <162.7.

When my son first started fc tests after dx we used Labcorp and the NNR (normal reference range) was <50 but his last lab done still by Labcorp had a NNR of <150. So they've apparently adjusted theirs. Quest Labs has always had theirs at <162.7 or <167.2.

Thanks for the info.

Have you been able to use these tests as an accurate indication of remission or flaring for being asymptomatic?
Is there a certain number that you've found requires medication? Or being under a certain amount means remission? Or are these values different for everyone?

I don't have IBD but I was investigated for it. It turned out to be h pylori. Because my son has CD they did a fecal calprotectin on me. My result was 164. I had scopes and imaging.

My daughter was tested for CD due to very low vitamin b12 results, GI issues. No IBD. Her FC was 67. She also had scopes.

My son has used FC as an indicator of active inflammation. When the scope and MRE showed simmering inflammation his FC was 300. His highest during a flare was 1700. My son has been asymptomatic yet has had active disease for a few years now. FC was once 56 after surgery, that was his lowest.

Mine was 300 and I was given one months prednisolone (steroid) tapering from 40mg to 5mg.It cleared the inflammation. As you have an appointment in the relatively near future,I wouldn't worry.Be aware of anything that is abnormal for you.Pain,fatigue,blood/mucus,
and mention it at your Appt.

Hi, if you were taking antibiotics or any type of infection can yield aloghtly high fecal calprotectin tests.

If you dont mind me asking - can you clairfy on tbe granulomas in your biopsy? Did they say there were a few granulomas and whether there was inflammation or not? And where did they biopsy?
Thanks!
