Fecal calprotectin results

Getting closer to a diagnosis. Blood tests and stool labs back today. Calprotectin was very high, 813.0. Range is less than 162.9. Yikes. This scares me. Greatly.

Sed rare high, 28. Normal is less than 15. Scares me.

Platelet high, absolute eosinophils high, absolute lymphocytes high. Scary.

Colonoscopy and endoscopy on Monday. Im scared.

At this point I'm hoping for crohns. Afraid of what else it could be.

IBD markers blood results not back yet. Dr said this would point to crohns or colitis....is there much of a difference?

Its better once you have a dx.
Colitis is continuos throughout the large intestine only
It also effects only the top layers.
It can be "cured" by removal of the large intestine if meds don't work.
Crohn's tends to skip around and can be anywhere from mouth to the anus.
Removal of the large bowel does not cure it .
At least your on top of things and he is getting scoped quickly.
It took 8 months to get my son scoped and we went in thinking a different dx

Knowledge is power. Trust me. Once you have an accurate diagnosis you can choose a treatment plan and settle into your new normal. Good luck on the prep and scopes!!

It helps to have a diagnosis but I get it....

I was hoping my daughter had anything but IBD. Finally, a week before the scopes I read a book on IBD and I read the Ulcerative Colitis section. I REFUSED to read the Crohn's section because it sounded way too horrible! Talk about head in the sand.

I remember hoping it was Celiac. Although that sounded pretty bad too.

Just don't panic. Educate yourself. This forum is really quite helpful as a source of information. If you like to read, then you can find research papers on the web once you know what you are working with.

I can't remember the age of your child but remember to be strong. Sometimes kids, of any age, bottle up the worries. Mom has to move in to support role, even when we are freaking out inside for our kid.

I remember the call all too well. I was expecting Celiac and then the GI said Crohn's. Whoa! What? THEN, he said he also has Celiac and I stopped breathing. :eek2:

I know it's going to be hard to hear, but it sounds like you are well educated and mostly prepared (mentally). You're here and you're learning. It will make transitioning easier. Please know, once you get a dx and have a plan in place, it gets easier, especially when you find the right med and start seeing your child feeling better. It's hard, but it's also manageable. You just adopt a new version of normal.

Worried mama, what was the results? Praying for you. How old is your child?

Aliwind, confirmed Crohns. Dr. Had started him on Pentasa, (I know, many do not think it will work)... We go back next week for our follow up, so we will see what dr. thinks and if we need to add something to the mix. My son is 12 1/2....

Fwiw Ds tried Pentasa at dx
For a month
Our second opinon said basically it either wotks or it doesn't either way you know in 30 days.
It didn't work for Ds but neither did 6-mp or Mtx
Only biologics .

Sorry Worried mama. Just know it isn't the end of the world and there are others that have it worse than your son. Hope for the best with Pentasa.
