:sign0085: I was diagnosed a few months ago (more info in my other post) and put on Infliximab which has helped lots. However, the past week I have found that I have inflammation around my bottom. I'm finding it quite embarrassing to talk about as I'm young and feel like this should not be happening to me, NOT that it should happen to anyone! I've had Haemorrhoids in the past, before diagnosis and they cleared up without me realising what they were (until diagnosis) but now I have a hard, painful small, but possibly growing lump) around anus and it's really bringing me down. I have my next infusion soon so I'll bring it up then, but just wanted to know what I should expect. I'm really scared that it's going to be something horrible like an abscess and it's making me upset. I didn't envisage my life as being like this and I feel like I've been dealt an unfair hand, being the only member of my family to have Crohn's. I would really appreciate any advice! Thanks.

RMS,
Welcome to CrohnsForum.

I am so sorry you are having these health troubles. They can be difficult and embarassing especially in young folks like you. :)

I hope you feel comfortable here to discuss whatever ails you. Many CrohnsForum members have been through exactly the same thing and they are so wonderful and helpful I am certain you will feel at ease here.

I know you are tentative to discuss your painful lump but if it is an abscess it needs to be treated as they can get dangerous. Your Gastroenterologist sees these type of things all of the time. So, as embarrassing as it is for you, it is just one of many he/she sees every day in the clinic. :)

CrohnsForum has a great "Beginners Guide to abscesses" that might help you out. I have posted the link below:
Beginners Guide to Fistulas and abscesses

Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon. Please keep us updated. :)

Hello RMS and welcome to the forum,

I must sdmit my first thought is that you might have an abscess, I would see if you can have this checked out as soon as you can, if it is an abscess the earlier you start treatment for it the better.

Please keep us updated on how you get on.

Hi, I have jsut joined. I had same thing when I was 18, I put it off as I was too embarressed. All I will say is get it looked at and treated ASAP then it will have minimal effect on your life! Its not a big procedure at all! and alot less painful then you can imagine! I remember having an abscess and the pain was unbareable (not sudden but gradual) once I had a quick op (and I mean quick not to mention painless) it was instant pain relief!

All the best to you!

p.s. get it looked at soon as poss!!

I've had two abscesses on the anus, the quicker they are treated the better. But I know how you feel, I'm the only one in my family with Crohn's too and it is a huge thing to deal with.

Welcome RMS I also am the only person in my family with CD. I also have a pea sized hard lump on my anus that I thought was an abscess. I was a little embarrassed to tell the Dr and this is coming from someone who has had 3 scopes and 2 kids so i have had my share of Drs looking in that area. Mine turned out to be a skin tag to my relief but please get it checked out. like others have said if it is an abscess, having a Dr look at your bottom will be the least of your worries.

The link listed earlier is great I read it myself when I was investigation my lump that i have named sticky (can you guess why? lol)

hope you find relief soon. sending hugs your way.
