Fevers with crohn's flare?

Hi,my son was feeling pretty good and off of the steroids for five months. Today he is experiencing cramping, dry cough, and now running a fever tonight. Do fever's represent a beginning of a crohn's flare up? He hasn't had any diarehea yet tonight though. Just a lot of belching...UGH Guess, I'll call the Dr. first thing in the morning if this continues. He takes Dyciclomine and that seems to help with the cramping.

I'd say its a flare. I suggest calling the advice nurse. My GI said to call in if a fever was with my "normal" flare symptoms

Worth a call to the GI - yes. But remember kids do get sick so don't panic yet. Hopefully it isn't anything serious!!

My son has run a low grade fever with a flare. But sometimes it has been a virus or something else. Us parents are just always on Flare Alert!!

Thank you all for your concern and suggestions. I did call the GI on call and explained what we were going through. He said it sounded like a flare and that possibly we could check his blood levels tomorrow and go from there. I hope it's just a virus. The GI maybe suggested that we may have to increase 6Mp put will need to see levels first. Sometimes I wonder if we are on the right medicine. ugh...
Kathy,,, It sounds like we have a lot in common. My son is 13 also and we live in Kansas. He has also had a abscess that needed to be surgically closed.

Lori, I didn't notice you were from Kansas! Is your son's GI at Children's Mercy?

Id not worry on the increase of 6mp. I have increased the amount of remicade and shorten then lengthened the delivery. I think as your body adjust to life the doctor has to adjust the drugs

Hope it settles soon without the need for an increase in meds. Would be "nice" if it's just an ordinary virus!
