I sent a text message to one of my doctors. I told him that I had been straining lately when I go to the bathroom. I asked him if it could be from a stricture. He sent me back a message asking if it might be from low fiber. Can't fiber aggravate Crohn's Disease?

Soluble fibre can be helpful in crohn's.
Fibre such as psyllium powder and husks very finely powdered.
My new GI has prescribed Mucillium for me which I find very gentle and effective.
I have crohn's in the left colon and also extensive diverticular disease.
Insoluble fibre can be harmful to crohn's sufferers.

It is so darn confusing, isn't it? I have problems with narrowing and partial obstructions, so I have been on low residue forever it seems. Things got worse, and all I was taking in was liquids and low fiber soft foods. My CT showed a lot of stool throughout my colon, so I did a complete turn around and added fiber. Right away things started passing through me more easily. (Prednisone was started too though... so I don't know if it is the fiber for sure that helped. I think so though.) I hope you find the right answer to your problems!
