I went back yo work for the first time since July last year. The CRS has given me permission to go back 2 days a week for 4 hours a day. Better than nothing. At this point just glad to have something to do. Now I just have to wait for bottom to heal and I may get permission to do some more hours. Thank goodness I have a fantastic boss who wants me back on the team.

Bottom still open, weepy and bleeding most of the time, then it closes, pressure builds, it explodes and so on. Oh well, miss piggy seems to be behaving.

Congrats on getting back to the grind...take it easy though!

That's great news Janette. Congratulations!
Take your time though. Sometimes the mind goes faster than the body!!

Yay!!!!!! Being back to work helps alot in so many ways. No doubt you will get tired at first especially with still having wound issues. But the mental aspect seems to help with the physical aspect of things.

So glad you have an understanding employer as well, it makes all the difference.
:rosette2:

Congrats Janette! I'm sure being out and about with something to concentrate on will help you loads :)

Congrats from me too.
Enjoy but don't overdo it and make sure your husband cooks on the days you work. :)

Week 2 at work, a whole 4 hours for 2 days, but boy it is tiring. Bit anxious about next week when I have to take some classes. Just hope miss piggy stays quiet while I'm lecturing. Probably my worst fear, especially with a class of 20 teenage pre electrician boys. Oh well, can only give it a go.

You'll be fine Janette.
Nothing like having the whole class intrigued about what that noise is and where it's coming from!
I once accidentally emptied my bag on my jeans and had to teach a class. I told them I had spilled my soup!!
And there is nothing worse than having to run out of a class mid sentence when you're having a flare - so could always be worse!!

Hi Jan, Glad to read that you have started back at work. I've just started back at work a few weeks ago after nearly 2 years out and I'm so glad I did. Only 12 hours a week but it feels so rewarding to be able to get that part of my life back to some normality again.

i love my job takes my mind off what is really going on in my life and gives me a focus. i no you are only there for four hours but it may just be that break of thinkin about it that you need x

I've just returned to work as well after my reversal/resection and I'm working 4 hours for 4 days this week. I get you on the tiring part. I'm very ready to go home by the time my 4 hours is up.

I think my problem is more having to sit up and support myself-- since I don't have abs currently, I'm using my back muscles so they tire quickly.

We will get there though! :)

All the best with the return to work Janette and KatieSue. Sounds like you are both doing really well so far. Fingers crossed the tiredness fades with time. :)

If you are worried about the sound Janette, I also have a very loud stoma and have a little trick I use. I wear a waist band and cut a small patch from a an oven glove and put this between the waist band and stoma bag over the section where the stoma is. Luckily the waist band pulls this close to the stoma so it doesn't show as a lump, and it muffles the sound well. You could probably use something else other than a small piece of oven glove....but it may well help ease your worries.

Also, an empty stomach can cause the stoma to be very loud, so make sure during the day you snack on something healthy (a nut bar does it for me). Don't gulp your drinks as you will be full of air.

Hope that helps! :)

Gav, pop your tips into the stoma support sticky at the top of the stoma forum page. I'm sure they will be helpful to lots of people. Anything else you think of too.

I used to dread those crs visits sometimes it's abit embarrassing talking about your BM'S frequency and how you feel sometimes gave them a miss cause I felt like crap abd couldn't get there I'm now on a disability pension as I have ankylosing spondilitis as well but would rather be healthy and working

If the worst comes to the worst, Janette, explain to them what you have had done and why it is being noisy. I've taught teenage boys and, if you do it in a matter-of -fact way, I guarantee that it will shut them up! And they'll probably end up being most impressed with you.

All went ok. Miss piggy made some funny gurgles everyone looked about including me so think I may have got away with it. I am going to try that oven MIT muffler. I wear drapery flowing clothes to work so if I do balloon it won't be to obvious. I think my slight anxiety may have actually caused the gurgling.

Anyway, onward and upward. If this but wound would heal I think I'd be as good as new.

Good on you Janette. Your positive attitude will get you through. (But its ok to come here and have a whinge too :) )

Thanks Anna,
I always feel 'human' when I come here. We understand what each other are going through/ and have been through. There are some things you can't share with 'able boweled' friends. So it is really great to have a special place to share and care.

Janette I feel exactly the same. I had lunch with some of my friends the other day and thought about relating some of our funny stories. But I quickly realised the "able boweled" would not understand AT ALL. For them the thought of having poo splash on their hands or face or clothing or all over the bathroom would be awful whereas we, thankfully, all have a good laugh. So I am very thankful for everyone here who has a great sense of humour and who can see the funny side of what is not always a fun life. Like we always say, if you didn't laugh you'd cry. Luckily we all do have a good laugh whilst also being supportive and caring and interested when someone needs a cry.
Thanks everyone!

So far work has been pretty good. A couple of 4 hour shifts. I think it's all the extra activities that get me. Anyway all seemed to be going ok until yesterday. I had the most disabling pain in my back thought I had put it out or similar, had no idea how. Woke up this morning in a pool of blood and gunk. My butt wound which seemed to be doing well had burst open and spewed all the infection out. I just want his healing over and get back on with it.

Sorry jus needed a whinge.

Yikes! That's a bit frightening. Is your back pain still there or did it stop once the bleeding began?

Whinge away Janette. That definitely deserves a whinge you poor thing. It must have been very frightening. And I can relate to wanting a wound just to hurry up and heal. At least mine is not in a particularly painful spot. I really hope you can get to see your doc soon and get it sorted. Sounds like you may need some antibiotics? There must have been a nasty infection there to give you the back pain and although it may have now drained dont let it get hold of you. Take care,
 anna
