As the title says, I had a colonoscopy yesterday(3-22), and although I was a bit groggy when he was showing me the photos and explaining, I have about a 8 inch section in my transverse colon that was inflamed and swollen and partially closed off. It will be a day or two before I get the biopsy back to get more details, but he said He thinks it's some form of Crohns.

now some history. I am 39 now.
About 13 years ago I came down with c-diff . the Dr. said I basically had hundreds of ulcers in my large colon. I was treated with antibiotics and all was well in the world, but the Dr. did say I had an increased risk of colon cancer.

3 years later I started having bloody stool and had a colonoscopy.
Stage 3 colon cancer, I had a bowel resection 3 days later, I think about 12-18 inches of my sigmoid colon.

1 month later I started chemo and got really sick. turns out I had a bowel obstruction and almost died.

Between then and now, things have gone fairly good. other than lots of hernia surgeries, I currently have another hernia that I am in no hurry to get fixed. One thing worth noting. is every time I go in for a hernia surgery the Dr. says I have lots of adhesions, it took him almost 1 hour of removing them last surgery before he could actually fix the hernia. The hernia is located right on my incision from the bowel resection.

Starting about 2 years ago before my last hernia surgery. I had an event that I want to describe in detail.
I was at work feeling fine, then ate some yogurt, 30 minutes later I began to fill pain right below my sternum, the pain got worse and worse, and eventually got to the point that I told my co-worker to call my wife I needed to go to the ER. I had never felt pain that bad in my life. By the time I got to the ER the pain was even worse. centered in the middle of my belly directly below my sternum. The pain got so bad that the nurse and my wife "thought" I was hyperventilating they were wanting me to breath in a bag. I couldn't talk and explain that the problem was it hurt to bad to breath, it felt "slightly better to hyperventilate and I was doing it on purpose, By the time I got to an ER bed, they gave me some morphine I was laying on my back almost 2 hours after the original pain started, then all of the sudden.
My stomach gurgled and the pain went away in about 30 seconds. So here I go from having what I described on the pain scale of 1-10, it was a 15. I wanted to die instead feel that pain. Then my stomach gurgles and I feel 100% normal. I had a CT scan anyway, and they really didn't find anything but what looked like a partial blockage, not nearly bad enough to worry about, they sent me home.

Over the last two years, this same thing has been happening once about every 2 months or so. I have learned that the best thing is to go take a warm bath and let the shower head spray on my belly. If I have any pain pills I take one, and completely relax my body, The pain gets so bad that I can't remember how to treat myself. My wife has to force me into the bath and force me to relax. even though I know it always works, the pain level gets so bad I am too confused to do it on my own.
Always the pain goes away with a "gurgle" in my belly and I go back to feeling 100% normal in about 1-2 minutes after that gurgle.
I have gone to many doctors and tried to explain these symptoms, none of them have taken my seriously.
5 months ago I had a normal scheduled colonoscopy(5 year), all went well and the Dr. only noted some small diverticulitis.
Now to the current story.
4 days ago, I had a similar attack but in a different spot this was in my lower left abdomen
immediately followed by vomiting and diarrhea, after purging all the food in my system. the next 36 hours I had only large amounts of bloody mucus diarrhea. no stool, only blood. I would not describe it as bloody diarrhea, but diarrhea that WAS blood/mucus
This latest attack was allot different, not only the location but the bloody diarhea.

Now that I had the colonoscopy while I was having problem and finally can get to the bottom of this, The surgeon who performed the colonoscopy is the same one who has blown me off in the past.
One thing was different, I took photos of the toilet with all the blood in the bottom. I got his attention.
Now that I almost have a diagnosis, I wonder if this newest attack is the same thing as the others, as it's in a different spot and I have never bled this much in the past. I have certainly bled but when I would tell the Doctors they would always say it's just hemorrhoids.

I have been reading these forums since yesterday and this seems like a good home. Hello everyone.
call me Sid.

Hi Sid and welcome to the forum.

Congratulations on getting the Doctor to listen. As they say, "a picture paints a thousand words"! I hope that you get a confirmed diagnosis and started on effective treatment soon.

My gut goes on strike periodically and I find that it just needs to be left alone without further food for a day or so. Like you, the first thing that I know about the situation resolving its self is when I hear the gurgle.

Regards,

Mark

Hey Sid and welcome aboard!

Sounds to me like your inflammation is so bad that your abdominal pain is your body's way is saying, hey something is wrong! If I were you I would go on a liquid diet for awhile to calm things down and try to avoid any food that onsets this pain until you can get a plan of treatment going. I'll be the first to tell you that I'll never give up food, but during a flare sometimes it's necessary to restrict ourselves for the time being.

Good luck to you!

Hi Sid,
wow - you have been through a lot! Sorry you have had to struggle to get doctors to listen; the more I read, the more I notice that a lot of people seem to have the same problem not being heard. I am glad they heard you and hopefully you will get some answers... crazy that people have to repeat things over and over or even have to take a photo of whats in their toilet to be heard..
I am glad you found the forum

I got an update, the Doc called today, and they are for the most part rulling out crohns.
I had something called Ischemic Colitis
what I dont understand is what caused it. I am feeling better this week with the only treatment was Flagyl and low res diet.

I did a google search on it, and understand "what" it is. but the Doc told me he is confused as to why or if 100% sure that is really what is going on.

now I am really depressed as I dont know why I keep having these problems.
