finally!

Can I get an AMEN! I finally got an appointment with my gi for a consult on the 13th and a possible colonoscopy the very next day. I told them I CAN NOT go on like this and at first the receptionist said he was fully booked but after telling her my sad sob story about how i am sufferring, she changed her tune and voila!!!!!

Hopefully I can get new stronger meds! Leaving on holiday on the 16th already so we'll see.

Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Good for you! I've had good luck crying on the phone too - when I scheduled my first colonoscopy, it was March and they told me the soonest opening they had was in June. So I thought at first that I could wait it out, but after a little while I was still doing very poorly and knew I couldn't wait, so I called back in tears. I explained my symptoms and how badly I was doing, and after hearing me crying and my sad story they bumped me up to the following week! Of course the colonoscopy found nothing, but at least I didn't have to wait 3 months just to have it.

Got a phone call this afternoon saying that they can see me within the hour. So I went to my GI, told him about everything that was wrong. Then he asked me a few questions like: Are you depressed? Does you pain keep you up at night? What are your BM's like? and there I was in tears in the GI's office. Then he pressed my tummy and said," There is going to be a place that hurts much more than the other places I press." And it was on the lower right side. Then he said, he wants bloods and a barium enema x-ray. And then he said, don't worry, you are not going to die????????

But never once did he tell me why he wants these tests or what HE thinks could possibly be wrong. URG!

Well i'm prepping tomorrow for the barium enema and going in on thursday morning to have the procedure.

Does anyone know what they usually check for with this procedure? And what it entails? I'm a bit scared....

Hey there!

I'm glad you got into the doctor. I haven't ever had the barium enema so I am not quite sure how it goes. I hope everything goes okay for you!!

Hope you feel better soon, thinking of you :0)

Sorry Simone...I dont have any experience with enema, but Im wishing you luck. Ive been asked several times if Im depressed, kinda random....but I think its a common thing they ask. I know how hard it is not to be all emotional in their office, especially when your so sick and just want answers. Keep us posted Im interested to hear of how things go for you! Hugs!!

I believe that they fill your colon with fluid that can be shown through an X-Ray to examine your large intestine. Good luck with your procedure.

No wait hang on a second i'm totally confused now.

Let me explain why....

On the order form the GI gave me to give the radiology unit, it says that i'm getting Enteroclysis. But the form with the prep instructions they gave me, says i'm having a barium enema. I think it's the same prep for both though...

Now i've googled enteroclysis and it's quite a lenghty procedure where they stuff a catheter down your nose to your stomach and through to your small bowel. Then they pump you full of barium and some other contrast medium and then they take a lot of x-rays...

Well I guess i'm just happy that no one is going to be sticking stuff into my bum...lol...

Aww Hun I hope all goes well and you finally get some relief.
Remember the barium causes diarrhoea with most people about an hour or more after your tests don't be far from the loo just in case !!!
Update us so we know how you get on.

Ahh, as far as I knew, I thought they would stick a tube into your rectum to pump the enema. But if that's not the case for you, lucky! :goodluck:

Hey, procedure went o.k, but instead of the nose tube I had to drink the barium. Nearly puked with every sip.

They found inflammation and swelling in my terminal ileum and swelling in the soft tissue around it. The report says they found mucosal irregularity and nodularity that are displacing my bowel loops...wtf?

They also picked up that I have a scoliosis of the spine to the left side...weird...

So the GI prescribed me 6mg entocort, 16mg Medrol, and 50mg Azapress. So we'll see how it goes...

Thanks for all the good wishes.
