Hello all,

If you would've asked me three months ago what a perianal abscess/fistula was, I certainly could not have told you. Unfortunately, one appeared out of the blue and, needless to say, it has been quite the experience. A horrible, horrible experience. The abscess itself was superficial, but it was big. The doc said he drained roughly 500 ml, I believe. The wound was packed for about 3 weeks and actually healed up well. Post op? It's been 3 months. I still have very minor discomfort and get funny feelings around the scar every now and then, so now all I worry about is the formation of a fistula. I know this affliction varies from person to person, but could someone please give me some insight? I do not believe I have ibd, but I've never been tested. I'm a very healthy individual and I can't ever recall having any ibd symptoms. I'm just ready for this nightmare to be over with.

Hi Leight87,
If the abscess is the only symptom you have/had, don't over analyze just yet. I know easier said than done. You can discuss with your doctor to see if he recommends any lab tests to rule out any potential causes. Good luck!

Thanks. It's definitely hard not to think the worst case scenario. Maybe I've read too many horror stories. I'm going to see a CRS this Friday, hopefully he can give me some good information. Oh, and I developed a hemorrhoid after the abscess as well (I freaked out and thought it was another abscess!), but it has since gone away. I've never had one of those, either.
