So today i eventually had my first appointment at the Pain Clinic. The Doc was really nice guy and basically said we don't treat bowel problems here and he put me on Amitriptyline for the pain ? He looked up my notes and gave me a exam for 5 minutes . Poking me in the abdomen where it really hurts I had to stop him as i just spent yesterday throwing up and bad cramping pain all night and D this morning. He said he was going to refer me in house to back to the GI and he felt that based on my notes I was getting worse and need fresh tests.
I could have told him that jeeeez!
So back home now with splitting pain from my navel to the area of doom. Well at least he didn't brush me off and he did say that many cases like this can take a long time to make any sense of and he would do his best to speed things up. Apparently the GI is going to ring, I ain't holding my breath though.

Undiagnosed . maybe its this, maybe its that !

Asacol 800mg
Amitrptyline 50mg

Another small step forward I think.

Hey PVail some have had success with amitrptyline on the forum. Something is definately wrong, and I had your pain and all of that for a year of testing. It was my Gi who caught it but since the hospital he was in, the surgeon who did an appedectomy on me says it was all in my head. I got sent to a teaching doc and go the dx and when he instructed another bowel surgeon to operate, he said it was so bad they took out a foot of intestine.

Where exactly is your pain? BTW I am a 3rd Irish ;)

Pvail That has got to be very frustrating! Don't loose hope though. The doctor was right when he said these things can take a long time to get fully sorted out. I don't want you to get discouraged by all the waiting. It took me years of suffering before I found a doctor willing to treat my pain. Exactly what symptoms is the Amitriptyline for? I tried it for osteoarthrites pain and tho it worked a little, the side effects where bad. I now take cymbalta for it and it works very will, but neither one of these drugs help for my belly pain. I take hydrocodone for belly pain. Do you have a GP that you see regularly? My pain gets treated by my GP, not my GI. I have also sent you this dancing banana to make you smile

Well I hope the Irish part is well !.
The amitriptyline is for the stabbing pain in the right side ? I had being givedn Neurontin and that I think made me worse. The GI is supposed to be the best but i feel his time and resources are stretched so I will just go back to my GP this week to see if he will upgrade the Asacol to something better.
Funny i never really got nauses before ,not to that extent.
My pain well i could draw a triangle now from my navel to under my rib (right) to my appendix. I being general but thats the constant. The rest as you know comes and goes when eating or BM .
Very sore ankles, intermittent sore eyes and small mouth ulcers occassionally.

Sounds like classic Crohns signs to me. Have you had a colonoscopy? You really need to be looked after, I think Asacol is not going to be enough and I would get it sorted quick because you could be headed for more painful problems. Try ginger or peppermint tea, it helps the nausea a bit. Keep us informed ok! :hang:

Pen i was given Colpermin before by the GI. I think it is a tablet form of pepermint. At the time it made the D worse.
Going to contact my GP and the GI at the start of next week if I dont get an word of an appointment.
Yes i have had colonoscopies six months ago. Nothing except red patches and alot of spasm reported . Things have changed since then so I know goin into work this week end is going to be difficult as im on nightshift but hopefully I will be able manage and not get noticed.
Could be just some sort of reaction to something but I will have to wait and see . If it continues over the week end Im goin to A&E.
