My daughter has her first Remicade infusion scheduled for November 30th. I know I shouldn't be reading scary warning and death threats but I do! I am so scared! I need some support from you guys!

Also, we are supposed be at the hospital at 8.30 and they said she cannot eat breakfast and cannot eat during the 3 hour infusion. I know my daughter...she will be miserable...or am I exaggerating? Is it normal not to eat before or during the infusion? Why? She also has to stay 2 hour after the infusion at the hospital, just in case? Again, normal?

And, what signs should I be watching for while and after infusion? I know the docs ail be there but I would like to hear your thoughts too.

So freaked out now...

Hey Aniuko...

No doubt others will be along that will be able to mind at ease hun. :)

My children have not been on Remicade but as far as I am aware you are able to eat and drink prior to the infusion and during it.

Having said that I imagine protocols may vary from hospital to hospital no matter what country you are in. Those variations would include length of time for the procedure, including pre and post infusion and the rules regarding the consumption of food. Perhaps one thing to consider is this is a requirement for the first infusion only?? They may want to gauge her response to the treatment before moving onto letting her eat. Just a thought.

Good luck! I hope all goes wonderfully well...:goodluck:

Ive just had my 3rd infusion, and wasnt told not to eat or drink before, infact they serve drinks and snacks continuously. Its turning out to be my binge days!!!

I know some people can have a reaction to the infusions, so they always drip them through slowly, but i was reassured that the staff are well trained and practiced in dealing with this. They do checks every 30 mins to make sure your ok.

I only had to stay 30mins after the flush went through. I felt fine, and now i drive myself to my appointments.

Good luck, and make sure you take something to read or do, as it can get boring.

Hi, no experience with Remicade but just wanted to wish you luck! Why don't you phone them and ask why she isn't allowed to eat. You could explain that you know of other children that were allowed to eat during infusions. Maybe then they would reconsider or at least you would know why
