first remicade treatment

i get my first remicade treatment in 4 days and im really scared :(. my mom keeps telling me that the side effects are really serious and she made me look up the side effects and risks. is it common for most people to get the side effects? and for it to be really serious? plus i have to take imuran with it.

I know all of the warnings and potential side effects make getting Remicade Infusions scary. I put it off for several years until I ended up in the hospital bleeding out. After the bleeding was under control, I started the Remicade. I felt so much better after 48 hours. I've been on it for three years and could kick myself for putting it off. There are some potential side effects, but for me the risk was worth it.

You will probably take some tylenol and benadryl before you get the infusion. This will prevent a headache and potential allergic reaction. The whole procedure takes me 2 1/2 to 3 hours from when I arrive to when I leave. Bring a book, lap top, puzzle books or something to pass the time. Don't be surprise if you take a short nap (that's the benadryl). I go to an Infusion Center where I have a private room with a television. I had a friend come one time and we played cards. Wishing you lots of success. Don't be afraid to ask your nurses and doctors questions.

Oh, and take good care of yourself. Lots of handwashing. The Remicade does suppress your immune system, so it is easier to catch an infection. I practice the good handwashing and was the only person in my office who didn't get the flu last winter.
