I've had a fissure before which healed into a skin tag. I now think i have another but it feels further up than the last one (which was right at the entrance where i could see it with the help of a mirror) I can't see this one , but the pain is very bad when having a bowel movement and there seems to be lots of blood (clots too) and what looks like pus. It's also tender sometimes sitting . My next appt is to have my Barium meal and x-ray on the 6th Dec.
Any ideas if i contact my doctor or should i use the cream i have (rectogestic) and hope for the best ? (The last fissure was not this sore and there was not this much blood and stuff)
Any help would be appreciated as very new to Crohns.
Thanks :ysmile:

Hi Joleen , I searched for ages to find something that would actually work and bring much needed pain relief from those dreadful anal fissures and skin tags,
The best thing I found was a tube of Germaloids ointment!.. usually available from any pharmacy and I was so glad I found something that actually worked

Germaloids also do a cream as well as an ointment, but I personally found the ointment far superior and much longer lasting and soothing for pain relief than the cream ......
I used to shower the fissures and tags after each BM pat dry and then apply just a little Germaloids ointment topically around the fissures and skin tags, it has that lovely instant anaesthetising cooling effect when you apply it.
It was the only ointment that worked for me, and believe me I had an awful lot of fissures and bleeding , I would cry with agony each time I went to the bathroom ...
My GP used to count my fissures like a Pilot and would say you have one at o clock, one at four o clock one at six o clock and one at 12 o clock

I eventually had a blood test which showed that Casein the protein that's found in cows milk was a major digestive problem for me, So I cut out all Dairy products and changed to Dairy Free alternatives and it did help to lessen the big "D" which in turn helped the fissures to heal, although I do still get one now and again, so out comes my Germaloids Ointment,
now I always have one in my bag and bathroom cabinet and always take some on holiday too .
I do hope that helps you Joleen :)

I get fissures all the time. I pretty much constantly stay on diltizem gel which heals them nicely for me but I haven't found a way to get rid of the pain. I say go to your doctor and get an exam asap. The sooner you know if it is indeed a fissure the spooner you can get proper meds. See your GI immediately.

Hey, Thanks for your reply's, Been in hospital about 3 times since this post. At the moment having none painful bowel movements. But have had a lot of Metro which seemed to help that area. Was also given Predfoam enema's to try which i found a great relief too. Was also given in hospital Lidocaine ointment which helps when im feeling a bit sore too. I have been avoiding dairy products lately as im very sure that it's a trigger food for me. Without wanting to jinx myself , im currently feeling quite good, and going the toilet no longer scares me, so just hoping this lasts :)
