Fistulotomy and C-Section?

I have a fistula with a seton. I've had it for two years. In that two years I've had a beautiful baby via c-section (as recommended by all my docs since I have a fistula issue).

My step mother in law in a nurse and recently made a interesting comment I keep reflecting on. She suggested getting the fistulotomy done during my c-section of my next baby (not preg at this pt). The idea both horrified and intrigued me. Thoughts?? My fistula is very shallow and according to my CR surgeon would require cutting only a bit of muscle.

Hi Danu,

I can't really answer this for you but my thoughts would be that I would only want to try and heal one area of my body at a time. I had two c-sections and I've had LIS surgery (they cut the internal anal muscle to try and heal a fissure as well as skin removed on the area). I have to tell you that healing from anal surgery was more painful than c-section recovery. Plus you'll have a new baby to care for and bond with. The only potential benefit I can think of for doing a "twofer" is not having anesthesia two times.

I don't think I would do it, personally. I had two setons placed in December along with a fistulotomy and the recovery sucked. It was definitely more involved than yours, but I can't imagine doing it at the same time as having a baby. I think you should give your body time to recover from birth before going for it.
