I have been having a bad flare the past two days and haven't been able to keep food down. The last few times I vommited I had a lot of blood come up. Should I be alarmed? I thought about going to the E.R. but i live an hour away from my G.I. doc and worried about getting admitted at a hospital he doesn't work at.

I would be alarmed. It's best to go to the ER. Vomiting with a flare can signal that you may have an obstruction. I know what you mean about not seeing your regular doctor, but it has been my experience that a different doctor can be a good thing. He may have a different approach to treatment. I hope you are not home alone while all this going on. At least call your doctors office and leave a message with the answering service....I'm sure he would tell you to go to the ER.

I agree, in my experience if I'm considering going to the ER then I really need to go to the ER. Go to the closest one and if need be you can always go to the other hospital tomorrow but at least you can get some kind of help.

I just read this and
i hope that you chose to go to the ER to get some help.
Good luck and I hope you feel better

What did it look like? If it looked like coffee grounds it was blood from the stomach. Red blood usually indicates a bleeding ulcer from the stomach up to the esophagus.
In either case it needs to be check out immediately. Go to the ER.

I went to the E.R. on monday night after ya'll advice and were admitted on the spot. So im waiting on santa to resolve this partial blockage in my small intestines.. ;)

My prayers are with you as well....If I see Santa, I will tell him where you are located;). I hope you feel better, and keep us posted.

Whoa Pop - you were up LATE! Bayou - I hope the blockage resolves quickly for you so you can get back home. Glad you went to the ER - good call! Feel better....

Hello Bayou
What a good thing you did going to the ER.
Vomiting blood can be a life threatening situation.
Smart move.
Hope you will soon be better and up and running again
Have a better and Good New Year
Cheers

thanks for the advice everyone.. I Got out the hospital yesterday. Im still having some cramping and pretty weak. I was sent home with a large prescription of prednisone. Next week, My doctor and I are going to talk about switching from Azothioprine to Remicade. Anyone have any problems with remicade?

Sheewww...I am glad you made it home with out having surgery. I am on Remicade. There is a Remicade club thread in the treatment forum. A lot of people have great results from it....So far so good for me too. Wow, our diagnosis and resection dates are pretty close. Where is your Crohn's located??...I hope you can get some rest with the Prednisone.

Glad you made it home buddy! Yep - read the Remicade club thread - should find lots of good info there!

Imisspopcorn, My crohn's is located at the terminal ileum. In 97, doctor removed about 7 inches up to the ileum. Last year he removed about 6" more, the ileocecal valve, and a small portion of the colon. In between 97 and 08 I had very few bad flares. Not sure why it has come back with a vengeance.

Same place as mine...Only 6 inches removed for me....I really hope the Remicade works for you.
