Hey Folks,

need a bit of info about flares any bit of info will help :ycool:,trying to see if I’m not going mad

last year during what my doc described as my first flare, I got sick all of a sudden, throat infection, chest infection, ear infection, flu. then after a few weeks I got a kidney infection and soon after me stomach started to grumble/hurt cramping pains, 10+ trips to the toilet a day, lost weight really quick as you would, nauseous.

Anyway I only started back work a month ago and I was fine for a week or so then in the last two weeks or so I have got a throat infection, chest infection, ear infection, flu again ,feeling nauseous from the minute i wake in the morning . I haven’t been able to get to my docs but my mama picked up some anti-biotic for me last week.

Now today I have noticed my belly is alot more noisy/active and I have also got a kind of burning pain strange pain across the lower part of my stomach and cramping as well with that.

Questions :ybatty: , is this how flares start and if so are theses tell tail signs of a flare? do you always get the same types of illness before a flare?

it may be coincidence but something is telling me its not :confused2:

Hey there!
I'm no expert, but I always have that burning pain and cramping, nausea, weightloss and loss of appetite when in flare. Cant help you with the flu like symptoms though.

I'm sure someone else can help you though.

Hang in there!

I had the same problems last year, ear problems and got so dizzy, then pnumonia, first time ever. It took so long to go away. Flares to me is when you cant settle any kind of pain for more than a day. When I get that heavy feeling I drink very hot water and I had to do that last night. It works because I am sick of taking stuff to feel better, just have a bit of nausea tho. My flares are not always the same, sometimes you get different symptoms and some last longer than others. Most antibiotics work, which ones are you taking and the dosage? Hope you feel better soon!

@ Dras, Thanks for the info..yeah noticed my appetite drop over the last few days definatly, i have felt like throwin up all day today :ymad: that burning pain is drivin me crazy.

@ pen, thanks for the info..hmm pnumonia dont like the sounds of that,i can tell my stomach is more active now though, had noticed it the last few days,i was in the office this morning and my stomach started to gurgle galalaglegelee and the four people in the office all looked up at me as if to say did that just come from your stomach??? me smiling through the pain nothin to worry about happens from time to time go back to your work  .the anti-biotics were just for a week to clear up my throat, i havent been able to get to my doc's again yet.

Everyone has different symptoms when they are in a flare, there are some people with practically no symptoms even. My symptoms are similar to yours with the flu like symptoms and diarrhea, weight loss, pain etc. But my main thing that let's me know I'm in a flare is bleeding. Not everyone is a bleeder though so you may be flaring and you may also have a virus. If your symptoms don't start to get better after taking those antibiotics or if they come right back after you finish them then you know what that means... go to the doctor. :p

@CrabbyRelish

Thanks for the info, hmm seems like there is no one way to know about flares everyone is different i suppose, just wanted to see if anyone experienced the same symptoms as i had when i first flared..i was thinkin it could be a virus but it seems a coincidence that it started this way last time ye know..i finished the antibiotics the other day and dont feel better since, my stomach has been in mad pain since...so i guess im off to my doc in the mornin :ylol2:

I know when I'm in a flare, because not only will my usual symptoms (d, nausea, pain, fatigue, dizziness, weakness) be 10 times worse, but I'll have other symptoms like night sweats, joint pain, and heightened emotions - I cry at the drop of a hat when I'm in a flare. I cry for no reason, I cry just hearing my mom's voice on the phone, I cry because I'm upset that I can't stop crying! The last time I flared, I did get a "warning" beforehand - the whole day prior to the flare, I just felt really "off." It's hard to describe, but it felt like nothing was quite right. I didn't feel right, the world wasn't quite right, I couldn't think quite right, etc.

Omg Cat-a-tonic, thats me as well, I just had an epiphany! I cry about everything too when i'm in flare. Last time I cried because the guard at the university didn't wanna let me through. LOL! Yesterday I cried because my tests were normal. It's terrible!

That kind of sounds like me VONFUNK, I also go through a period of ..just weird feelings in my whole body. This last flare, the one I am still on and has been going on since June of this year...It started out usual in the fact that i started having abnormal stools..which quickly went to the Bloody D. then I noticed ...which never really happened before ...pain..then overall joint pain which i jumped into a hot shower to relieve. Something else which is embarrassing to me is that this time around I am extremely emotional and cry at the drop of a hat too...I never really cried before...I don't know if its the medication or what...Im on steroids and was told that could cause it but ...it is rather weird...and yeah another weird thing happened to me when this latest flare went into full blown flare...i had a fever that was rather high then went away...and the next day i was using the bathroom close to 15 to 20 times...nausea followed about a week later with a constant fever and then I went into the ER. Guinness you are right I think everyone is unique in the way this nasty disease presents itself... good luck at the docs.

My flares usually start with everything tastes bland. Then I get gassy, moody, fevers, diarrhea, mucus and bleeding..in that order.

my flare never seems to end.. its just constant and an awful normal.. I notice more when I have a day without crazy pain/trips to the bathroom. which has been 3 total in over a year..

update on my situation :boring:

so i went to see my GP yesterday after work to try find out what has been goin on....anyway i explained everything that had been goin on about the infections and general feeling of sickness etc.

after hearing this he checked me over ears, throat, chest and my stomach of course :voodoo:. he said my ears were ok just a small bit of fluid but my throat was inflamed as was my chest.he checked my stomach ye know because of the cramps and burning pain.he said that i was defo in a flare because after he checked my stomach particularly near my ileum he said it was inflamed and very active(think thats how he worded it anyway .

seen as i am not yet diagnosed with CD after a tonne of mess up's in the hospital with results of tests they told me over the phone i had IBS and gave me an appointment for three months away which is next month,he wanted to give me steroids but said it was better if i didnt take them because he didnt want the inflammation not to show when i see the GI in a couple of weeks.

so he gave a mild antibiotic for my chest and said he will try to get my appointment with the GI moved forward..

so thats were i'm at, just back waitin waitin waitin again.

Flares for me = mucus D, no absorption of food and so hungry every 2 hours, hair loss (malnutrition in general), weight loss (up to 10lbs a month), crippling fatigue, hyperactive bowel sounds, intense lower abdominal pain/cramping, and a spot of depression.

Needless to say it's pretty clear to me when I'm flaring!

I also get the hair loss and malnutrition. I get hungry often but can only manage to stuff 2 or 3 bites down my throat... This disease sucks... :(

Hiya Guinness, ah you poor love, hope the antibiotics have kicked in and your chest feels a lot better. Here's hoping that the next couple of weeks fly by. xxxx

I have noticed though over the weekend that im getting really bad muscle pains in my legs and arms , mainly my legs though even when i have done very little walking during the day i have a pain in my legs like i have ran a marathon :rof: just thinking of me trying to run a marathon but seriously does anyone else experience this during a flare or just in general?

hey folks :)

would anyone have any tips to help with muscle/joint pain and feeling tired in general(nearly falling asleep at my pc in work a few too many times over the last few weeks)? ive never had this before but its got worse this week mainly today.i got home from work a few hours ago and can feel my muscle's aching,im like this from the minute i wake up till i go to sleep.im a little worried this is going to effect my ability to do my job.

Hey Guinness, maybe you can try having monthly B12 injections. It may help with the tiredness. Dont know about the muscle aches tho, sorry.

Wow, I hadn't made the connection. I've only had one flare so far, but it was a biggie. I got a horrible flu type thing with an awful sore throat and ears, which after a couple of weeks led to labyrinthitus. I thought it was related to having stopped smoking three weeks beforehand.
Took four months for the dizzies to pass, and three months later, I started having the stomach pains, UTIs which proved to be the result of Crohns inflammation.
