I had a resection. My surgeon gave me a week's worth of Florastor. I just bought fifty more capsules. Anyone have opinions on Florastor good or bad?

Could I be wasting my time and money? It costs me over $35.00 for 50 capsules.

I tried it for a while. It is fairly well respected in the field of probiotics, but I didn't get results. This isn't to say you won't get results and after a surgery getting good bacteria back inside is really a good idea. It is a great probiotic if you have antibiotic induced colitis as it helps to shift your flora back to its proper balance so I would say give it a try. If in a few months you don't feel there was a lasting benefit, then you can stop, but it isn't overly expensive to try. Also make sure you take it properly, I remember that you have to avoid certain foods or something along those lines when taking it, though I could be wrong since its been a while.

I'm a strong believer in probiotics. I think they have really helped me stay in remission after my surgery.

I take Primal Defense, by Garden of Life. I haven't tried Florastor. My GI told me that whatever probiotic you take, you should be ingesting at least 5 billion CFU per day.

Greg, Thanks for letting me know I need at least 5 billion. I am taking two capsules which means 10 billion.
