They like you system empty when you go in. I eat what I can tolerate leading up to surgery.

Cheers DJW! I think I'll do the same, but was just wondering if maybe going on liquids would make recovery easier?

My son was on a light diet after lunch the day before until fasting time. He did not have bowel prep as a part of his pre op work up.

Dusty. :)

Good question. I don't really know. Prior to surgery make sure you are well hydrated and as strong as possible. Hope it goes well.

My daughter had emergency so no bowel prep or change of diet but she went in really unwell so didn't have much of an appetite for the preceding couple of days.

Pre op diet did not affect their recovery times. They both had uneventful recoveries.

I was given pre-op calorie drinks the night before and the morning of the operation, they say keeping hydrated and having a good calorie intake helps your body recover and reduces the chance of insulin resistance.

I had a low residue diet to follow for 5 days before and was allowed to eat this until midnight the night before. I did have bowel prep though.

I dont know if it makes a difference as i dont have anything to compare it to but I was out of hospital 4 days after the operation.

Thanks Dusty. Yeah I think I'm in a similar situation to your son as I don't have a bowel prep either. Just no food after midnight on the day of the op. Interesting that they're recoveries weren't that different. Thanks!

Hey Nicola, thanks! Yeah I think I need to increase my water and calorie intake a bit but will be on low residue diet. I wont be having a bowel prep, just fasting after midnight. :)
