foods that irritate

Hello, sorry if this shows up twice in the forum...I posted it one time and it never showed up, so I'll try again...I'm still new to the crohns stuff, and I'm trying to nail down the foods that bother me...I know it will take some time and probably lots of trial and error...After you eat something that doesn't agree with you, how long is it before you can tell that it doesn't agree with you? Is it within a few minutes or hours, or the next day? Not many things I eat tend to bother me soon after I don't think, but then maybe the next day, I have more symptoms than usual...Is that from what I ate the day before? And if I do eat something that is irritating to me, can the symptoms worsen for several days? Hopefully someone can help me nail this down...I'm going to start a food diary so I can help myself...Thanks for the help!!!

Have a good day!!

well it varies according to what it is that I eat. peanut butter for example doesnt bother me until the digestion process takes it passed the Crohn's spot. as soon as it gets there i get bad cramps that usually last for 2 days or so. pop tarts do this as well for some reason.

if i eat something that is high in dairy and lactose, i can feel it almost immediately. takes about 5 minutes and it already cramps me up. thing is, with dairy, it will hit my stomach and cramp my crohn's area AND hit my throat. don't know if anyone else has had this problem? lactaid usually helps alot.

it varies from person to person but usually a couple key things to stay away from: dairy, fast food, nuts, raw fruits and veggies, gassy foods like beans.

Some foods send me to the r.room right away, like soon after the meal. However, other foods hurt the next day for a day or two. The second one is the more dangerous as it is food hanging up and hanging around my stricture area until it digests enough to fit through.

It's frustrating to figure out good and bad. It takes time.

some effects are immediate, others take a while. They say that in a healthy gastro intestinal system, some foods will take 18 - 24 hours to (how shall I phrase it?)... 'complete' the journey. and, of course, what impacts you and when depends on the location of your problem.. Altho we tend to think of the latter stages of the digestive system, some folks have crohns related issues in the stomach, the duodenum, etc..

It's something that you'll need to test for yourself. Keep a diary. Watch & see what happens. sometimes something you ate 2+ days before will cause reactions and you might need to look back, compare note, and see if you can find the culprit

see a nutritionist, esp one who specializes in IBD related issues. They're a really big help. or talk to your doc (altho their knowledge of the dietary issues is usually not as up to date or focused as dieticians/nutritionists who specialize in the area), or look for IBD diet info on the web.. Just watch for the ones who try to sell you a lot of special IBD related stuff... good sites may have ads, but don't direct sell stuff
