Hey Everyone,

I'd like to give you guys a little background about myself and situation. I'm 18 years old I have an Ileostomy which I was so lucky to recive (yeah right) March 3rd 2011 due to a an apedix removal gone wrong. Rewind to December 4th 2010, I was playing football in the Divison 3 MA Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium. As a football player I'm big into fitness and am actually planing on being a personal trainer. Not being able to be the althlet that I am has been the most difficult part of this entire situation. About a month ago I began picking up so weights and doing light exercises, they are just enough to keep going in good spirts. I'm schedualed for a reversal surgery July 19th and I couldnt be more excited, although I'd be lying if i said I wasnt nervous about the after, I wondering if anyone has started their fitness life after reversal and even tips while with one. I'd be extremly greatful for any help you can offer and I'd be more than happy to help out anyone who needs it. Thank you so much for your time.

Havent had any surgery but have been ill for a while so just getting back into fitness. Im finding it pretty hard as I used to be much fiiter. Ive lost some muscle mass and my general fitness isnt there anymore. I tried doing the sort of training i used to do but it was too much for my body to cope with.
I found that taking it very slowly tis much better. I do approx 2hrs of workout a week and go walking as well. Just dont rush getting back to your old fit state too quickly.

Theres a few threads somewhere about suppliments (whey protein etc) may be worth looking into those (some cause some ppl problems).

welcome to the forum anyway (ps, its not football if you run with it in your hands :p )

Hey Ed,
If you ended up part or all of your colon removed I can't stress enough hydration hydration hydration. Be careful and do light core workouts for a while. If you feel anything really straining STOP.
After your reversal you might have to learn to "hold it in" for a while. I'm not saying you'll have any accidents, just you'll have to learn at what point is you have to go and can't hold it anymore.
And of course the healthier during and after surgery the faster your recovery time.
When you're completely recovered and hopefully back into football I would suggest getting with a trainer, pt, or even a stoma nurse to come up with some type of padding (kind of like a catchers chest protector) to put around your abs to help absorb any blows you might get.
