Foul smelling mucus?

Hello everyone!

It's been awhile since I've posted on here, but I'm back! And with an embarrassing question...

I've been noticing lately that sometimes when I go to have a bowel movement and nothing comes out, that a watery substance leaks out? It's usually a greenish/yellowish color, and it has a very foul odor to it. As gross as it sounds, I can 'feel' it leak out and when I wipe, there can be a bit of bright red blood on the toilet paper as well. :frown: I'm not quite sure what this could be, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem before? I've been wondering if it's just mucus, or if it's something else.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post :)

Welcome back although sorry it's under these circumstances.

Whenever I see mucus or blood I let my GI know in case they want to run any tests. Mucus is usually a sign of inflammation and the blood could be anything from irritation to ulcers (I've had bright red blood coming from ulcers in my ileum before so bright red doesn't always mean it's coming from further down in the GI tract). When was your last colonoscopy? Are you taking any medications for Crohn's currently?

Probably a good idea to have my GI run a few tests, then. I just wasn't sure if this was anything to be concerned about or not. And if you've had bright red blood from ulcers in your ileum, does that mean it's also possible for me to have it considering some inflammation is in my sigmoid?

My last colonoscopy was a few years ago. I've had a couple of scans since then but I've had a hard time seeing my GI due to the expenses of the visits. :frown: I'm not currently on medication, either.

this is indeed possible with mild rectal inflammation. I get this symptom, sometimes, just before I do a BM also. The mucus comes out and then the fecal matter fallows. I have never noticed any odors though... Green color seems unusual to me also... My mucus is always whitish to beige and sometimes pink or reddish coloring inside because of the blood. have you excluded any possible STD's (just another idea)?

When I go to the bathroom and I am having a flare, it can be green. Your body is getting
everything through so fast that the bile does not reabsorb in the small intestine.

Great fun!

I have had this too, but mine is usually reddish or brown. Mine seems to come with inflammation.

Thank you.

It's possible but there's really no way to know for sure without having some tests done. It's good to have a colonoscopy done every few years just to make sure that things are ok and to do regular colon cancer screenings since we're more at risk but if you're in a flare then scopes may need to be done a little more often.

I understand the concern with expenses and I'm really sorry to hear that. :( Is that also why you're not currently on any medication? Many companies will try to accommodate people who are low income and offer help with paying for treatment. Was there a particular medication your GI suggested?
