Hey all, just wanted to give a brief an intro (as possible)...!
1998 - 15 years old - diagnosed with crohn's
had symptoms for atleast 6 months prior to my diagnosis.
Probably like many others here saw multiple GP's.. was told things like 'i have a night virus'.. 'stomach bug'.. etc.. you name it..
My parents got fed up as i dropped about 10kg in a month and was on the couch all day.. so they took me to the children's hospital.. after colonoscopy and barium was told i have TB or intestine or crohn's.
went straight on high dose of pred and was already eating and feeling better next day..
2002 - 18 years old - pretty much in remission up until 02.. but symptoms got extreme.. had to have resection and a temp ileo.. (for about 4months)
in the meantime develioped several infections.. and required several more hospitalisations... was extremely ill and weak.
crohn's was on and off after stoma closure....
I had plastic surgery on my scar.. not to get rid of them.. i didn't mind too much but because of ileo scars i had major uneven fat distribution... and i hated it... so had that fixed up with a bit of liposuction...
ironically... 2months after i had that fixed my health severely deteriorated... i had pain in my leg when walking... and was running high temperatures... went to hospital... after CT scan docs found a massive abcess on my psoars muscle (bout size of fist) and major narrowings in intestines... had to have a drain tube put in.. VERY PAINFUL when under only minor sedation.. grr. and yeah.. once again... ANOTHER resection in 2005ish... surgeon mentioned possibility of another ileo.. and i freaked out... i hated the thought of having to go through all that again... my experience with it was not good.. lots of leakage etc.. skin problems...
thankfully i woke up without one.. had to be monitored very closely.. as the absess still required drainage and lots of antibiotics..
basically took it very easy after then.. health wise the last few years i've been my best that i've ever been... up until now... but i geuss 5 yearsish remission is considered decent..
going through bit of a flare at the moment.. but so far pred has eased the pain a fair bit so fingers crossed.
nice to be here.. seems like a great community ~
