Frusterated Surgery again!!!

Ok, so I had a colostomy on Aug 2011, my surgeon told me I was doing amazingly well, was back at work after 5 weeks, was doing good mentally and phsically... Now all of a sudden under my surgery site/stoma site I have developed a hernia, so now I have to have surgery again, and this close to Christmas...really...uggghh... CT Scan today to see if they can do lapro or if they will have to cut... I am hoping for lapro, and I am done with the surgery cause I am over it...This will be 3 in the past 6 months....

So sorry to hear that!!! I too have dealt with a parastomal hernia. They wouldnt do lapro on me though. But I have to say, compared to the emergency surgery, the parastomal surgery was a breeze!

But...they come back these awful hernias. They are not uncommon. Come visit us over here at the stoma forum:

The use of mesh is very successful in hernia repair now. If they can do it lapro, you will be up and about in no time. I was up and about the next day even though I was cut. So really, it's not too bad, I promise!!!

I have no hernia experience but I wanted to chime in here and say "Wow! You were back to work after only 5 weeks??!!" I have a colostomy as well and I was out of commission for a good 3 months. Take it easy after this surgery, don't hurt yourself...and good luck!

Thank you all so much for the well wishes and info. I am definently going to take it easy after this one, but I wish they would hurry up... I am frusterated as they did the colostomy so my recatal fistula which goes through the muscle would heal... However it is currently very hard to sit cause it hurts so bad!!!! UUUUUGGGGGGHHHH!!!

Hi Steph - Yes, good luck with the surgery on your "paranormal" hernia as I used to call Misty's! Hope all goes well and you are feeling better very soon. Take it easy and use the holiday to get as much rest as you can.
