How is full mucosal healing determined? And, does full mucosal healing mean that there is NO active or chronic inflammation anywhere?
MREs can show inflammation but, if there is microscopic inflammation, would this show in an MRE?
I believe biopsies would indicate if microscopic inflammation is present but only in the very specific spot from which the biopsy section is taken, right? So, if visually, no inflammation is seen, the GI would just randomly select a location to biopsy - couldn't the biopsy sample miss a section of inflammation?
I am assuming that the presence of microscopic inflammation means that full mucosal healing has NOT been achieved.
What do your GIs look for and are there any other tests to confirm mucosal healing?
