Fundraising - need advice

Hey you beautiful people,

Every month on payday at my work we have a dress down day and we select a charity and everyone pays £1 and we raise money. The charities are anything from help for heroes to great ormond street to local charities. Members of staff put forward charities they think are worthwhile and every month it's a different one.

I'd really like to put forward the National Association for Crohn's and Colitis so that we can raise money on one of our dress down days at work. My problem is however I'm not really sure how to pitch it to my colleagues; the last person nominated a neuro ward at the local hospital because one of her friends had a terrible accident and had a brain injury so it was really close to her heart.

I can't really email this:

'Oh yeah hi I have a big hole in my butt and I've had a camera shoved up there n stuff n I might have crohn's so I googled it n found out it was really bad and went on this forum and met all these people and I can't believe how much suffering this terrible disease causes and these people are amazing and I just think it's such a worthy cause please give money pleeeassseee'

Anyone got any better suggestions :S

Yes you can, just say you have a friend that suffers really bad with it.

Oh ok, if you want me to make a guest appearance , fly me over and wine and dine me etc cool but it really isnt neccessary !!

Seriously i would say that i have a friend that has suffered really bad and has had surgery etc etc.

I've just joined NACC so applaud what you're proposing :thumleft: I'm guessing the email is going to people you know, so I would start off with a bit of your personal story ( maybe reworded a bit - lol! ) and maybe say a bit about how although a lot of people have heard the name Crohn's, they don't really understand the full implications of the disease and that it can affect people of all ages.
And a link to NACC for people to see what the money would be going towards.

Haha, good suggestion shamrock, you should totally go for it. I feel like I've met a lot of wonderful, supportive people on here and NACC is such a worthwhile cause and it would be great to raise awareness for it at work. Perhaps I could post a pic of my butt in the work newsletter? Might get people donating, haha.

I might leave my personal story out of it, it's a bit complicated because I'm not formerly diagnosed and my symptoms are really atypical (and gross) and it's just so complicated to explain. But I just basically need a short paragraph explaining why Crohn's is a terrible disease and why the NACC is a great cause worth donating too. I should be able to pull something together

I wonder if I could get a few quotes from people about what the NACC has done for them?? That'd show what a great cause it is.
