My last doc that I didn't like too much did an endoscopy and found inflammation in my stomach. He gave me some acid blockers....didn't really work. My new doc who I like is going to do a colonoscopy instead. Can doctors tell if you have gastritis by doing a colonoscopy? I would like her to do both and I think my stomach is messed up too, but if my intestines is inflamed would she think my stomach is also inflammed and would the meds for my intestines work for my stomach too?....If that makes sense.

You can't see the stomach with a colonoscopy. You could ask that the GI add an endoscopy when he does the colonoscopy and let him know that your stomach was previously inflamed. The meds for treating an inflamed stomach would depend on the type of inflammation and underlying cause. You can have gastritis of the stomach that is caused by h. pylori in which case it would be treated by antibiotics and ppi for I think a month. If the inflammation in the stomach is due to Crohns then meds for crohns would be used.

If your previous GI took biopsies during the endoscopy then the inflammation may already be identified, biopsy can identify h. pylori so it may be in your medical file so mentioning it to your GI may clear up the matter without having to actually have another endoscopy. Good luck.
