Hey all. So a few weeks ago after my Upper GI scope I got a little note in the mail and a script for Omeprazole saying I had Gastritis, Esophagitis, and Duodenitis. And that was the extent of the note. I don't have an appt with that doctor for a few weeks and would like more information. Does anyone else have any of these and have any tips? I've done a little research online but haven't found a whole lot on treatment etc. Just wondering what any of you might think???

I've actually been diagnosed with all of those at different points of my late teenage and adult life. In addition to the Crohn's Disease, I have horrible acid reflux. When the acid increases it also affects my asthma. I have been on: Omeprazole, Sucralafate (Spelling?), and Regalan. I've had to get off of the Omeprazole. It worked really well on the acid reflux, but it caused a lot of lower abdominal cramping which hurt my CD. I am taking Ranitidine and it's okay. I still have lots of reflux. Some of these seem to help me: raising the head (pillows) of the bed, eating before 6:30 p.m., avoiding tomato products (I will eat them when the reflux isn't around), avoiding chocolate, and I stay completely away from any type of aspirin products.

I have some stretches of being acid reflux free, and then like the CD, I'll flare-up with the reflux. YUCK! Good luck in finding what helps to keep that acid under control, it does inflame the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

Hi,

I also have Gastritis and Duodenitis. I take Nexium 40mg once a day and Gaviscon Advance liquid after breakfast and before going to bed. Most of the time things are ok, but I find that antibiotics like Cipro and Doxycycline make things a whole lot worse.

Diet plays a part for some people. I try and avoid Wheat, Gluten, Caffine and Alcohol. However I'm week willed and often end-up having some or all of the above! As long as it's not every day or the ammount is limited it's fine. Spicy food does not make things any worse, but fatty food does.

Sleeping with an extra pillow or raising the head of the bed helps to reduce reflux problems at night.

Everyone is different, so keep trying untill you find out what works for you.

I had an upper endo last summer, and it came back showing mild gastritis and esophagitis. Initially I was put on omeprazole 40 mg daily I think, but when I went back for the follow-up, as I have NO symptoms for either, he took me off of it. I am on no medication for either, but I do take turmeric, ginger, and krill oil daily. I am hoping that since it is mild the supplements will help keep it that way. I am also not dxed with IBD, most likely I am in the IBS camp. That was the only inflammation that showed up anywhere, and pathology did not show it to be from CD.
