Hey guys!
Brand spanking new here, and couldn't be happier I found this forum :)

I experienced my awful abdominal pains first in November '08, finally received my colonoscopy January 2010 (ARGH, over a year of being ignored!!!!!!!). A week after that, had my small bowel follow through, and that day was told it was crohns (duh, I told my gastro that I thought it was crohns in April '09. his response? "nah, it's not crohns". good grief.).
So a week after that I was called in to be told the diagnosis 'officially', and after he told me everything I already knew (I'd been researching crohns incessantly for over a year) he informed me that he only likes to slice and dice, and he would be referring me to a gastro who is a specialist in IBD, who will officially get me on meds and on my way to feeling better. He said his name was Dr. Cretin, and that they'd call his office and set me up with an appointment.

........ weeks later and I am still a crohnie with NO HELP from anyone!! I've called my old gastro's office and I got "oh, Melanie.... we put in a request... and heard nothing back yet... we'll let you know when we do". still. nothing. Now I can't even get a hold of his office.

Here is my question to anyone who may read this and lives in the Toronto area: have you heard of Dr. Cretin (Creatin? Creaton? Creton? only heard him say it, no idea how to spell it)???? I want this guy's number so I can ask him myself!
I'm desperate, I'm sick of waiting around.
Searched for this Cretin fellow in a physician's directory of all of Canada, and he doesn't seem to exist.

HELP!!

- Mel

Welcome Mel! I was looking for ya offline but if the specialist is in a clinic sometimes the name isnt mentioned. Getting the correct spelling and intial is helpful. You may have to wait because even if you find it, they may not help without a doctor's referral. I even tried thru www.canada411.ca , my computer is slow and would take all day. Sorry I am not much help but I hope you get to see a specialist soon, and hopefully not the typical 4month plus wait.. Your doctor needs to be push, dont give up.

Thanks for replying!
Guess I'm just a little frustrated, been waiting so long to finally get some help. Just have to keep bugging my doctor, wish this process wasn't so difficult. Even if I am receiving no medical help, this site is fantastic!

Welcome to the forum Mel! Lots of helpful folks and good advice here. Hope you get a GI appointment soon! Keep pushing for it....

Hey Mel,
I don't know any doctors in Toronto, but if you are willing to drive to Hamilton (1/2 hour drive depending where in Toronto you are) - check out doctor David Armstrong at McMaster University Hospital. I have been going to Mac since I was 13 years old, and they have been great. They were (at least when I started going there) the second leading research hospital into Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis in Canada - Calgary was leading at that time. I live in Barrie now, and still make my way down to Hamilton every 8 weeks for my remicade appointments, plus my doc visits every 3 months.
Best of luck - hopefully you get a response from someone soon.

I was diagnosed in Bowmanville by a Dr. Shiver - an internist who sent me to Toronto to a Dr. Baker at St. Mike's - Great guy - he gave me a surgical referral to a Dr. Bernstein who did my surgery in 1998 - another great guy - Hope this helps and good luck - it can be daunting dealing with the medical profession at the best of times ...

Hi Dustin...I'm in Barrie too!

Re: Doctors...My doctor is also great, but she's in Barrie if you want to make the trip. Dr. Petroniene. She's part of a practice here of 4 doctors that specialize in gastroenterology. She's fantastic.

I got a call back today, YAYY!!! I am all smiles :)
well, except for the fact that now I know for sure I've got a few more months of waiting because my appointment is not until June 1st, grrrrrrrr. I'm praying my crohns remains under control until then, though the bad nights become more and more frequent over time!!

Found out his name is Dr. David "Kreaden"!! I was way off haha. He is at Humber River at Eglinton and Keele... anyone heard of him? he better be great considering how long I've waited (it'll be 1 year and 7 months of chronic pain by the time I see him)

thanks soooo much for all your help guys!

Yay, great news! I don't know the hospital but I do the hospital... not many in Ontario I haven't covered ;) ... You should ask to be put on a waiting list, you'd be surprised how many people cancel their appointments. Just my Gi appt the other day, 2 never showed...what a waste of a Gi's time! June is far enough away when you are in pain but that is the shortest I have heard in Canada. You are lucky. In the meantime you need to look after yourself. Good news!:) How far are you away from Humber River hospital??

Great news about the call back. In my experience, there is always a lot of frustration and waiting to see specialists. Just hang in there and welcome to the site!

LOVE that link, Dustin, thanks! looks like I may like him :)
I'm about a 25-30 minute drive from Humber River, that's not so bad!! could be much much worse.

Yeah I know Richmond Hill area, Thornhill is where my mother grew up, many moons...LOL The reason why I asked was because if there is a cancellation you could go and squeeze in. Ask to see if it is possible? Good luck!
