Hi, crohnies. I haven't posted much as of late. Been dealing with a lot. Have had a ton of pain and nausea since before Christmas. Been to the ER 3 times so this last visit they finally have decided to do surgery since the CT scan shows the inflammation has worsened and the meds they give me (Flagyl, Cipro, Entocort) have done nothing.

I have never had surgery. They will be doing an open surgery (not laproscopic I mean) so that worries me. The surgeon has yet to come in today to tell me much about what is going on which makes me nervous. I am drinking the magnesim citrate which is HORRIBLE. They will be taking out the infected part and my appendix. They said my chances of waking up with a bag are 3 percent as long as I do my prep.

Again, never had surgery so I am scared. And today is my birthday of all days. Happy 30th to me.

Has anyone else been through this?? I was only just diagnosed in Sept, I cant believe I am already getting surgery...

What a birthday present. Anyway, happy birthday! Try to remain positive. Hopfully, you will come out of this with the bad parts removed and you'll start to feel great.

I had an open surgery that was partial laproscopic (I believe that's called hand assist) back in 2000 or 1999 I believe. I've been in remission ever since. They took out my appendix as well (they take everyone's out to prevent future complications). Surgery isn't fun and it is painful but they give you pain killers. You'll also be very tired but over the next few days you should be in less and less pain and they will encourage you to get up and walk. People are usually released from the hospital within 5-7 days depending on how they're healing. You're gonna be ok and you're going to feel much better once you're all healed up. I didn't have a cath or a bag when I woke up from my surgery. They tell everyone that a bag is a possibility so you're prepared for the worst but you'll be just fine.

Happy birthday! Put the party on hold for when you've recovered. ;)

Good luck with the surgery, I'm sure you'll feel much better as a result once you've recovered......Happy Birthday:smile:

Happy Birthday!

It's going to be ok little love!
You're in safe hands, they know what they're doing!
When I had my hysterectomy, I was nervous too, but all morning kept imagining what life was going to be like with no pain and misery!
Keep that in mind, you're life is gonna change, for the better!

Many Happy Returns :rosette2:
I think it's only natural to be nervous. I had surgery to remove an ovarian cyst when I was 25. They took us in a couple of days before the actual operation to do tests and stuff. I seriously contemplated running away from the hospital and just hoping it would go away on it's own!
I think, on the bright side, it's good that you have been diagnosed and will be treated early, especially when you read some of the undiagnosed stories on the forum.
All the very best - you'll be back up and on your feet in no time.

Thanks, guys. I know deep down everything will be ok but I am still really scared. I kept having bad dreams last night about it. I just want it to be over with. I also have thought of just running away and seeing if it can get better on its own. I hope I am doing the right thing.

Thanks for your thoughts and well wishes.

Awww Big hugs, I wish you a better year to come then this has started out for you. Have faith everything will go right and trust your doctors to do whats best. Best of luck to you, and keep us posted. Feel better soon~

Happy belated Birthday! :) Good luck with surgery and recovery. Hopefully, it will be an end of your pain!

Happy Birthday! Hope all goes well with the sx!! Will be thinking about you and hope that you recover quickly.

Well surgery went well. Recovery has been much more difficult than I thought it would be. I hurt so bad, so much soreness. They took about half a foot out and my appendix. I walked yesterday around the entire floor which seemed to impress my nurses. They took my catheter out this morning and I am nervous about getting to the bathroom because I am SO SORE.

I'm still scared but hope this will help me ultimately. Thank you for your kind words and for listening to me.

I'm so glad it went well! And you didn't wake up with a bag?
Keep moving, this is important, to keep your abdo muscles from seizing up!
Good luck with your bowel movements too, once you've had one of them, chances are you'll be home in no time! Don't worry if you're a bit constipated, everything inside has been asleep, they need waking up, slowly!
I wish you a speedy recovery, take care

You go ahead and fart your heart out. ;)

There's no way to describe the pain of that surgery now is there? I've stopped saying how bad it would hurt cause I'd hate for anyone to not go through with it because they fear the pain.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and some yummy food soon!

Recovery has made a turn for the horrible. Terrible nausea that never goes away (even with medication.) They had to take my IV out because my arm swelled. But since I am such a hard stick they can't get another IV in me and all my meds are done orally. I have 0 appetite and haven't eaten a thing. This is a hell I didnt expect, if I had known this would happen I dont think I could have done this.

I am so sorry for your surgery. My daughter had to have a complete colectomy and a "J" pouch. She was very frightened too, and the recovery had its ups and downs, but she is doing great now. You will gain your strength back too.
I see that you are from Las Vegas. I have a niece who is have serious gastro problems and she needs a great gastro doctor . . . do you have a name to recommend.
Thanks,
IBDDAD

Sending some well wishes here. Things have been rougher than I'd like them to be lately as well. I don't know how mind over matter you are but stay determined to feel better and ride this through. You already did well with the 3% odds and wound up bagless as hoped. It's Vegas, bet on yourself to get better. I hope you start turning the tide soon hun!

Hi its doms 38 got crohns disease in the year 2000 I struggled for ages and I had my first surgery end of 2000 it is real scary, but it will help you, I was was wondering if you have had your surgery yet, I completely understand it's real hard going, I live in New Zealand and have 5 resections, but with new drugs coming on the market all the time there is always something new coming around the corner, I am on Humera and that has really made a huge difference in my life and I now seem to have it under control but it is real hard going some times. Let me know how you are getting on.

Sorry to hear this. Could one of your painkillers be causing the nausea? I did not have nausea when I was in the hospital, but the narcotics do other nasty things to me. Did you have one- or are they considering a NG tube to drain your stomach - if that is the cause of the nausea?

I was in the hospital for 7 days and each day was horrible. I only started to feel better the day after I returned home. I had the same issue, could not eat in the hospital. My guess is my troubles were related to my pain killers which I stopped at home - only went on tylenol (you can imagine that was not fun either). I kind of had to convince them to let me go home.
I remember I tried to eat and threw up, but kind of hid it (I just wanted to go home so bad). I don't recommend that, but it is interesting that I did so well immediately on returning home.

I really love this message board. Y'all are such great support and your experiences and words of wisdom are invaluable.

I get to go home tonight! The nausea has subsided, I actually ate dinner tonight and I am walking around with very little discomfort for the most part. HOPEFULLY the worst is over... But I don't want to jinx it. Once they took me off antibiotics I seemed to improve...

Happy homecoming!

Great news! It sounds like the worst is over and you're on the road to recovery. Sending you best wishes-each day to be better than the one before!

Oh brill! Nowt like your own bed!
I wish you a speedy recovery, the only way is up now!
Anti biotics have so much to answer for even tho they do the job, but nausea is no fun!
Take care and chillax
