Hey all,

My boyfriend's father has Crohn's Disease and because of that he may develop it later on. Basically I just joined this site in order to get more information about it just in case something does happen to him or his father. To be honest, I don't even really know what Crohn's is or what treatment is available. I just want to make sure I'll be able to support him if he does have it.

Welcome to the forum,

If you read this part of the forum and the support forum you will understand quickly about our disease. If your boyfriend starts to not eat as much, loses weight, goes to the bathroom a lot, starts to look pale and green. Make him get some help. Crohn's is a genetic disease so it is possible for him to get it. I'm making an assumption as I don't quite know, I should research this tomorrow, but if Crohn's is a recessive trait then both parents would have to either be a carrier or have the disease to pass it on. If his mom doesn't have the trait then it is impossible for him to get it. But if his mom has the trait then it will be 1/4 that your boyfriend has Crohn's. To see how I got that research Punnit Squares.

Thanks for looking out for someone who may be a Crohnie.

He doesn't ever really eat that much, but everything else checks out as okay for now. Thank you for the advice; I will be sure to read what I can find here.

Hi CNP,

Well done you for hunting out info!! Accurate info is a great start for you to support your boyfriend and his dad. Your wanting to understand says volumes for your own genuine and caring personality and I just wanted to say thankyou to you for taking the time to find out more.

Please ask and keep posting and get your boyfriend to read the site so he can help his dad too if that helps!

Looking forward to seeing you around.

well, even the children of a crohnie have the odds on their side.. theres a ninety percent chance your boyfriend will never get this.. Sometimes, when we focus on the things ahead of us that 'may' go wrong, we can lose sight of all the day to day things around us in the here and now that are going right for us. Just a thought.
