haha!! no way you talked about the elephants too? tell story now!

somewhere mark posted about thinking he was an elephant and the oxygen tube was his trunk and then when the nurse took away the mask he was afraid about the other elephants making fun of him or something?
when he was waking up i mean.

well we thought something really bad had happened, because i was in alot of pain and wasn't sure what was causing it. for some reason i was having bad burps and acid reflux. apparently nothing was draining. the doctors decided to put in a drainage in my nose that went to my stomach, well i had a bucket to throw up in if i needed to. they have makings of liter amounts on them. I threw up 5 times when they were putting the tube in. which came out to about 2 liters and then when they drained the collection bin it had about an additional quart or more of liquid/bile, i think. it was somewhere around 1500 cc's. not sure if they ever told us why it wasn't going through.. said sometimes intestines going into a kind of shock after surgery and sometimes that's what can happen. but did a ct scan today and there was no leaks or tears or anything. there was an abscess which i will be getting a drain in put for tomorrow. but still haven't had solid food since Sunday.

I had a second abscess show up right after my resection :(

Had to wear the stupid bag another 2 months. Hope the fistula closes fast for you if it is still open.

Mark, I'm disappointed to hear that things still aren't smooth sailing for you. Hang in there. The good stuff (less pain and solid food) will come soon enough and then *whew!* what a relief. Fingers crossed that that happens really soon for you.

Hi Mark. After my surgery this happened to me too, I was in lots of pain and they inserted an NG tub and I was vomitting a lot. the next day they gave me an x ray and the surgeon decided to open me again as he was afraid there was an obstruction. Well after cutting me again, he said he found nothing and that it was just that my intestines were lazy and I have a low threshold for pain (stupid doctor)!!!!!!!!! Well after about 9 days, I finally passes stools and gas and was out of hospital. I had a couple of weeks of pain but slowly things became better, and now 4 months after surgery I'm feeling very well actually. so hang in there and hope things get better soon....

I had a nasogastric tube as well. That was awful. I was in the hospital two weeks, if I recall. Out a week, then back in for another 5 days to deal with an abscess.

You have my sympathies. It's quite the ordeal. Better days will be around the corner. Hang tight!

Oh that's awful having to have one put in after surgery :( I had one in when I woke up but they put it in during my surgery, so didn't know a thing! Then left it in for the night in case I had problems then ditched it in the morn... Haha the elephant story is great wish I was that interesting when I was on painkillers!

Sorry all that happend Mark. My Second resection was a nightmare, they operated when I was infected and the general surgeon didnt believe in antibiotics and only gave me one pill just before surgery. I had to penrose bags on either side and my incision got infected. Never had an NG tube, I have refused, sooner throw up and get rid of it. Hang in there, they will look after you and get you on your feet. I am assuming they are giving you antibiotics?
