great to know there are others out there

Hi There, Just wanted to post that I went to the specialist yesterday. I came home with good news for once! She said that i'm one of her healthiest patients!!! I feel better since being on Pentasa. The only thing i've suffered from that was hair loss.
So my main concern at the moment is a small amount of blood in my stool. It still hasn't gone after 7 months but I feel so much better.
I've got gluten intolerance aswell but i'm wondering if it was all just to do with my crohn's. I was taking evening primrose oil and that seemed to work a little. Apple juice and letting it go slightly brown is great too. Pectin in it helps to line the bowel.
I try and keep away from acidic fruits and vegies. It makes inflammation worse. Apart from that i eat everything in moderation. But i'm estatic that i can have chocolate thick shakes from mcdonalds!!!!
I do however keep away from gluten.:thumright:

Good stuff! Glad you are getting healthier. Sorry I can't comment on the blood because I have never bled, only once when I had a gastro bug and then went away. I cant have chocolate anything, if I do I pay, not worth it. For a treat I can have a Tim Hortons Iced Cappucino, not very often besides it is 300 calories.... ugh. Congrats on your good news, it is what we all strive for!!

Hey Cins

Fab news! keep up the good work, you're doing great!
I can eat chocolate no problem, I would cry my leg off if I couldn't!
I have hair loss too, dunno if it's the Pentasa or just being a Crohnie! No-one seems to have an answer to that one!

Hi Cins, my son's issues seem similar to yours. He is feeling mostly well these days but still has blood at least every other day.

Some I've read here bleed with little to no concern and others say take it seriously and push your GI for answers. Our GI doesn't seem too worried but I can't say that.

Oh, and I make EJ choc milk shakes using Carnation Instant Brkfst all the time. They're nutritious and delicious and don't seem to bother him at all.

Thanks and keep posting,
Mark

I struggle with chocolate during a flare up but its mainly fatty foods I struggle with ie cheese and fried food. I am very pleased to annoounce that I am lucky because I can eat spicy foods and my fav food when I have a flare up is salt and chilli prawns with chow mein from our local chinese takeout.

I've done very well since I drastically curtailed my refined wheat consumption. I'm not Celiac, so I'm able to tolerate other grains. I use a multi-grain (spelt/kamut/millet/oat/hemp) for sandwiches and toast, and have eliminated pasta from my diet (rice instead).
