Read an interesting set of articles that suggested you should not drink green tea if you have these conditions:

Lupus
Allergic Dermatitis
Scleroderma
Atopic Eczema
Sinusitis
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Asthma
Allergies
Cancer
Ulcerative Colitis
Multiple chemical sensitivity

There was also an interesting study, that was not really conclusive, but seemed to suggest that people who drink 7 cups of green tea a day were more likely to get Ulcerative Colitis.

If I understand the article correctly if you have a T1 type disease it could help:

Type I diabetes
Multiple sclerosis
Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis
Grave’s Disease
Crohn’s Disease
Psoriasis
Sjoren’s Syndrome
Celiac Disease
Lichen Planus
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Chronic viral infections

This was supposed to be good for you if you have a T1 disease:

Green tea
resveratrol
pycnogenol
curcumin
genistein
quercetin

This was for T2:

Echinacea
astragalus
licorice root
beta-sitosterol
ashwaganda
panax ginseng
mushrooms (Maitake, Reishi, Shiitake)
chlorella
grape seed extract

I think the article said there might be a blood test that you can take. I see crohns on one side and IBD/UC on the other.

Especially with the confusion some people have around if they actually have UC or Crohns.

Green tea if drunk with meals can prevent or interfere with the absorption of nutrients from food. People with C&UC do not absorb nutrients well anyway, so not a good combination.

Most green tea contains caffeine and people with IBD and IBS can be affected by caffeine.

The chemicals sprayed on tea plants can negatively affect people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity.

Best way around this is to drink only low-caffeine Certified Organic green tea; well away from meal times.

I personally cannot stand the taste of green tea and only drink caffeine-free herbal teas like:

Chamomile
Nettle
Slippery Elm
Peppermint

Many herbal teas stop cramping and pain associated with C&UC – so I drink them on a medicinal basis, as well as a nice drink.

I drink 1-3 cups a day. I usually drink it NOT during a meal. I have replaced my coffee with it because coffee was making my symptoms worse. . . green tea does not.

I have Crohn's though, not UC
