Hello,
I am new to the forum, have a teen diagnosed 3.5 years back. He uses natural supplements and a bit of Pentasa. I found this forum doing research and have been amazed at the useful information found. Wishing everyone the best. Lani

Hi Lani, please stick around!! How is your son doing now? I'd like to know what you've learned over the years!! Have you learned any specific diet tricks that have worked for your son? What are the supplements he is taking? Did you notice any specific changes associated with any of them? Keep posting!! Welcome aboard!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome!
It has been quite a journey and have done much research to see if he could manage without steriods or immunesuppresants. Budesonide was used for the first three months 3.5 years ago, since then it has been just salofalk or pentasa since then. He has played sports since he was little and has managed to keep playing since although keeping weight on/growth and anemia/energy has been an interesting challenge. He seems to have small flares 2-4 times a year, gastro doc wanted to put him on immunesuppressants but have stayed away from that.
As for his supplement protocol I have followed JPT's Listen to Your Gut book with trying a few other things.
Oddly enough the one thing that worked really well was mangosteen juice. After mom's friend raved about it which i was totally sceptical on, it worked great but he stopped as taste sent him gagging.

For supplements he uses daily
pentasa
fish oil capsules
Zymactive
cod liver capsules
wild oil of oregano
natren probiotics
iron supplement
L-glutamine and NAG although this has not been every day lately
calcium/magnesium, vitamin D
George's aloe vera juice if stomach feels off....works well for him

I have been reading about pretty impressive results with DMSO, Colloidal silver
so am curious to find out more. Also wondering what others are using with success so thanks again for your replies and look forward to hearing from you!

There is a few others we tried but discontinued, which I'll think back and let you know. Cheers, lani

HI Lani :bigwave: Welcome! Sorry your son is in the IBD family and you are looking after him. Nutrition is so important having Crohns especially growing kids. Supplementing with Boost or Ensure drinks can ensure he is getting enough that he needs.

Pentasa is the choice of drugs for mild cases so hopefully it stays that way. Good information from alot of people in his age group to. Perhaps he could join to and you are alway welcome!

Hi Lani and :welcome:

Sorry you had to find your way here but it's a great place when the need is there, heaps of support and info. I hope your son continues to do well. Good luck and welcome aboard!

Take care, :)
Dusty
