Hi! I was just wondering if any parents with kids with growth issues also found their child wasn't losing baby teeth due to growth. My son has already had an expander to help give his mouth room for the baby teeth to fall out but he is 11 and he still has atleast 13 baby teeth to lose. He had growth issues at 7 and 8 but is on remicade and seems to be doing ok growing about 2 inches a year. Any input is appreciated. Thank you! Mj

Yep! O was late to lose her baby teeth AND get braces. The orthodontist wouldn't put braces on her until she grew because he said she would only grow again and things would shift. As a matter o fact, two of her baby teeth never came out and the adult teeth came out over or around them. We ended up pulling the last two. Which btw if you do that it should be timed in the middle of your Remicade cycle due to risk of infection. Our dentist was the one who caught that.

Are there permanent teeth waiting to take their space? I never lost 2 baby teeth as there were not adult teeth there to push them out. No issues with teeth here other than being sensitive to cavities.

Thank you! Yes there are adult teeth. The are just being held back by the baby teeth. Thanks so much for the quick reply.

Is there a connection with cavities and crohns/remicade?

Just asking because S recently went to a new dentist and he suddenly has tons of cavities to be filled! Never mentioned by old dentist (retired) and none of them hurting him so we're trying to figure out if new dentist is just trying to max out annual insurance coverage unnecessarily or if he really does suddenly have approx 5 or 6 cavities! (Just very coincidental because hubby went to same new dentist, with same results - suddenly tons of work to be done!)

Well if it were only S I might be inclined to blame college more than Remi but since hubby had a similar sudden appearance of work I would be suspicious.

Makes you go hmmmm, but jack did have to have 4 cavities filled in April after years of no cavities, same dentist only change was remicade. We know have him on every 3 month check ups

It also took N years to loose his baby teeth, and then the new ones took long to come in.He also had a ton of cavities after a year on remicade....I think it does mess with your teeth. But things seem to have settled down now. I also found a dentist that doesn't try to "fix" every dent in the enamel. She watches and waits. Maybe you can ask your dentist about this.

Tesscorm - is Stephen on anything that can cause dry mouth? Many pain meds for example have dry mouth as a side effect and that can increase your risk of cavities. My older daughter had a couple cavities and is very careful about brushing and flossing and her dentist thought it might be some of her meds. Not Humira though, as far as I know.

No issues with baby teeth for us.

Maya - no, S is only on remicade and supplements (krill oil, vit d and Boost shakes). Since this is a new dentist, no strong relationship so I'm just going to get copies of S's x-rays and get a second opinion... pretty coincidental with hubby BUT could also be because both were at the same, now retired, dentist - possibly he was the one who let things slide??

Sorry Mj1gaynor, I didn't mean to derail your thread! :(
