Someone on here asked about handicap tags a while back and I couldn't remember who it was, but I thought I would share with you my experience.
In my current situation, I can't walk very far. My GI knows me fairly well and everything that is going on with my health. I asked him to fill out the paper work for me so I could get a tag. I was worried about the form, I don't want to explain myself, I am very embarrassed that I can't walk. But there is not ANYTHING on there that asks why you feel the need for the tag. All my GI put was his license # and then had someone notarize it. Thats it. So basically, as long as you can get your doctor to agree with you that you need to park closer to the door (fatigue, bathroom emergency, severe joint pain) you can get a tag.
EDIT: I got a temporary tag, its good for 6 months. So if your in a bad flare, its a g od idea to have and hopefully you won't be so sick 6 mo later (but you can just get another one if you need to)

Thanks for the information Afidz. :) I'm glad your GI was willing to do that or you.

I remember asking about handicap parking tags a few months ago but it seemed to be a consensus that unless you can't walk you won't get one. Needing the bathroom and not having enough time wouldn't qualify. I'm glad you are able to get yours but it sounds like others weren't successful.

NGNG they didn't even ask me why I was asking for one. My GI's signature on the paper was what was important. So if you can find a doctor to understand why you are asking, then you should have no problem. (however, we do live in different states, but my mom said it is that way where they live too)

Nogutsnoglory it's possible that that may be the difference between a permanent one and a temporary one. The one Afidz got is temporary which may still benefit those who are in a flare and are interested in getting one.

I didn't realize there is a distinction, just assumed one re-applies on an annual basis or so. I think it's so great if crohnies could get this because it truly can become disabling.

I have a tag! I got it in 2012 when I was on oxygen 24/7. I was upset when my GP gave me the form and she had marked it permanent. That sounded too final for me! She did not want to change it because of my Connective tissue disease and GI problems, so I still have it, and am glad! If I go through a spell where I am feeling good, (which probably means I am on prednisone :) ), I do not use it.
