Happen to take 2 doses of entocort

What mg amount did you take? Real overdosing requires a lot of corticosteroids to be taken.

I assume you took either 3 times 5 mg or 20 mg tablets at both times. If the former, no prob, if the later you took a total of 120mg which you shouldn't do on a constant basis, but one day doesn't matter.

Thanks, I take 3mg pills, which I took 6 of. I will have go be careful. I was supposed to take 3 pentasa and took the entocort instead.

At 18mg you don't have to worry. Immediate flares are treated with up to 60mg or more per day for a few days before tapering off.

Just a general question, have you just started with this dosage (9mg per day) or are you tapering off from Entocort? Or has your doc prescribed this as a long term treatment (something done many years ago, but today alternatives such as immunosuppresives or biologics as long-term treatment are definitely better)? There are quite a few threads on this forum about long-term treatment (Pentasa vs. azathioprin/6mp vs. remicade/humira/cimzia vs. entocort/prednisone).

Cheers,
A

I have to take it 8 weeks, then take 2 for 1 month, then I see gastrointestinal dr. I quess to see how it's working. I've been on it about 3 weeks.

I'm confused are each of you talking about different drugs? Matty, it sounds like you are talking about Entocort and it sounds like alex_chris is talking about Pred. They are both steroids but the dosing instructions are much different, I thought.

Here is a dosing sheet for Entocort

You should only take up to 9mg of Entocort a day where with Pred I've heard of up to 60mg a day, that some people have been on before tapering.

Edit to add: Also, to answer your question I think it is always best to run things by your GI or consultant or GI nurse, in the event of med mishaps, new symptoms, etc.

Clash, sorry - you are absolutely right. I got mixed up.

matty, I am sorry for confusing you.

Next time I will be more careful before responding.

However, I know from pred that you need to take a really large amount to "overdose" and that doubling a dosage one day will not have a significant impact on your health.

Once again, sorry for that and Clash is right, you should talk to your GI or GI nurse about overdosages.

I took ALL of my meds 3 hours apart one! I just had a brain fart I guess. To fix this is quickly got a pill box like the ones my grandparents used! LOL

I currently take 9mg of Entocort once a day. I called my insurance nurse line and they simply told me to skip my next dose (if I was supposed to take it within 12 hours of the accidental dose) and watch for general signs like getting to warm, trouble breathing, vision changes, headaches etc. If I felt ill at all I was to go to the nearest ER or call 911. I never felt any different.

I will tell you that the RN went over all my drugs and exact dosages as well as many many health questions. That would be the ideal situation.

Good luck with the Entocort! It really helped my immediate symptoms but I tried to taper it twice with out success. I will starting remicade soon.

thanks for replies and sorry for late reply. I felt okay after that double dose. I started putting them in a pill despenser daily so i don't get mixed up. thanks again
