Hi there,

I've been on Humira for nearly 3 years now and I want to start trying for a baby. My consultant said I have to stay on Humira while pregnant.

I want to know if anyone has fallen pregnant or had a baby while on Humira? Also what are the effects does it have on yourself and especially the baby?

Please someone help me I need help, I don't want to harm my baby but I'm desperate for one.

Thank xxxx

Yes. My 2nd child. I was told to stop Humira for the 3rd trimester (when it can pass through the placenta) and during Breastfeeding (because there is not enough info on that).
My child is 2 and no known side affects as a result.

Oh that's brilliant news thank you. I kept asking my doctor but they just said you have to weight up the pro's and con's xx

My son's pediatrician mentioned to us that he now has several children in his practice that were conceived by women who were on a biologic at the time. He implied that they had successful pregnancies and healthy babies.

Here's a link to an article from 2013 that reviews the safety of TNF-a inhibitors during pregnancy. The box at the beginning includes their conclusion if you don't want to read the whole thing.

The basic message is that it's better to be in and stay in remission during your pregnancy and that staying on a biologic does not appear to threaten the health of the child.

Women with CD have somewhat lower fertility levels for reasons that aren't well understood. If you've had abdominal surgery then your fertility level is likely to be significantly lower - something to discuss with your obstetrician if you aren't successful in a reasonable period of time.
