Two weeks ago my arthritis was really bad and the Doctor gave me a one week course of Prednisolone, (30mgs) About the same time the Crohns was troubling me, after a meal I would be running to the toilet with bad diarrhea.
I have had diarrhea constantly for over a year and last month had a Bile Salt Absorption Test. I get the August.
This week the diarrhea has been really bad so much so I had to take Immodium to try and stop it, then I didn't go for two days. Yesterday after not going for two days I was running through the night, and the bit I am most upset about about, got up this morning, and had to change the bed. I feel so ashamed and upset, and very depressed today.
Does anyone else go through the diarrhea/constipation cycle?

Thanks

Oh my gosh, I'm with you the diarrhea/constipation cycles. :(
There's times I don't have a BM for a month, and times that I have extreme diarrhea with extreme urgency, cramping and nausea up to 5 times a day! It's ridiculous! Don't be ashamed, it's far from being your fault!! Just remember, poop happens! ;) Really though, it's a natural thing, everyone does it. Some of us just have more issues with our bodies than others. No blame or shame in that!
I don't have Crohn's. My GI is leaning more towards IBS. :/ I'm not sure what it is, but I can tell you it's really interfering with my life, even with being just a stay at home mom and wife! The pain and bloating is unreal, I never know if I'm going to vomit, or if I need to use the toilet. And to make things worse here, I need a job. We can't seem to make ends meet on just hubby's salary. I don't know what to do...and on that note, I've also noticed stress and depression cause bowel issues as well! Wonderful stuff! :(

I personally try not to take anything like Immodium because the same thing happens to me. If I take a small dose the diarrhoea doesn't stop. If I take enough to stop the diarrhoea then that's it, I won't poop for days. And once I do poop, I have a 'backlog' to clear, leading to... Diarrhoea!

Some people on here have had success with other methods such as psyllium husks to control their diarrhoea.

Also it might be worth you chasing up the results of your bile absorption test. I can't believe that the results take 4 months to get- more like there is a 4 month wait to see the GI to get the results. Sometimes if you phone them up you can get test results released to your GP, who can then see you much quicker. If your diarrhoea is due to bile salts then there are medications out there (eg Questran) specifically to deal with it.

Thanks, your right its not how long the results take, but the appointment to see the GI. Will chase the results.
Thank you both for your replies, feel a bit more postitive xx
