Hi,

Sorry for the awful details but just looking for advice. I've had crohns for almost 7 years. I've had 2 bowel resections and often notice minor bleeding when wiping. Lately I've had pain near my bum but thought it was simply piles however felt a large lump. Cut a long story short this looks like a large boil/blister/lump however is very tender and all around it feels inflamed under the skin.. the lump is just smaller than a 5p coin but the swelling around it is approx an inch wide. It hurts when I move/sit and throbs but isn't bleeding and doesn't have a head like a boil (at first I was unsure what it was so gave it a bit of a squeeze but all this has done has made it hurt more, no pus etc). Its located on the inside of my bum cheek to the side of my anus (not actually on my anus though). Does this sound like an abscess? Is it worth bothering my crohns nurse with?

Thanks for any advice.

Yes and yes it's a abscess and I would definetly run it by ur nurse cause they can be really really really painful!!! I had the same thing ur talking about same location and everything I lanced it myself lots of relief but huge mistake!!! I eventually had to have surgery cause of that stupid move!! Good luck get some antibiotics and clear that thing up!!

When I've woken up after an uncomfortable nights sleep theres pus and blood in my pj bottoms and its there when I wipe.. is this normal for an abscess? Maybe it is just a really awful boil.. I'll keep my eye on it over the weekend.

Yes, it sounds like an abscess to me. They sometimes drain on their own and sometimes need to be lanced by a doctor. If you have blood and pus, it might be taking care of itself.

I have had good luck with a two week course of cipro and flagyl making them go away in the past.

It could also be/turn into a fistula - that's what happened with my last one.

I think it is worth getting it checked.

Hi. Still talk to the nurse. I'd also suggest you get some epsom (sp?) salts and take sitz baths.

Thanks guys. I'm going to ring my nurse on Monday as it's still really painful and I'm shattered all the time so probs best to play it safe and get it checked incase its a flare warning. I'm also getting painful lumps in my arm pits that last a few days then ease (last week it was my right one but went after 3 days and now my left is the same) which does make me wonder if there's something going on inside crohns related.
