Hello for the people on Humira all i can find is drink in moderation well I'm sure there people out there that drink maybe 6 or 8 drinks to get a little buzzed. Well my question is what will happen if i have 6 regular drinks vodka/whisky/wine or even 5 once in a while once a month. Is it the Humira i have to watch out for or a flare I'm asking if i have 6 drinks at one time am i putting my life in danger. Im a big guy 6'6'' 210 40 years old and really don't want to give up my booze its how i relax and now that i haven't been I'm all tense all the time. use to be a binge drinker 12 beers plus but not about that life any more just would like to get a little tingle.

I think with crohn's having that much alcohol in a sitting is not a good idea even being a big guy. Alcohol kills bacteria in your bowels and impairs digestion. It takes a while for it to grow back properly. Secondly, if you overdo it, I always found it important to know what was the reason for vomiting. If you need to go into an ER and you smell of alcohol you are guaranteed to not get the treatment you need. Docs are busy and will unfortunately jump to conclusions in a case like that. I think a little moderation there, as in two or three, will serve you much better. May take a while to get back there but it is worth the trip.

While I understand the impulse I would not describe 6-8 drinks as moderate. I would go 1-2 drinks as light and 3-4 as moderate. Now it is unlikely to be a death sentence but like shamrock15 said doctors jump to conclusions and if you need to go the ER they may quickly conclude bad thing about you and you might not get ideal treatment which could be really bad with Crohns.

If you cut back from binge drinking 12 in a row I'm sure you can cut back again. You can do it!

3-4 sounds good to me. But why would I have to go to ER? 3-4 I can get a tingle and that's fine by me don't need any problems I have enough in my colon lol. But thanks for the heads up.

You'll be pleased to hear that alcohol doesn't bother me at all ;)
I very rarely drink more than 4 drinks but when I do my head protests much louder than my bowels!

It is the unplanned visit to the ER that we are talking about. If you happen to have the misfortune of an obstruction at a time when you have been drinking, your symptoms may very well mimic affects of alcohol. It is those crohn's related events that are really worrisome. Keeping the consumption moderate really does allow a greater ability to communicate at those times. Being able to tell your doctors what is happening can be challenging enough during an event without adding the effects of impairment.

Hi i find if i have 1 drink im ok 2 n can be a little lose(bm wise) the day after 3/4 im on the loo most of the day with the big D. Im in remission as well at the mo (20mths). I rarely do have a drink but now n then a glass of wine is just whats needed n i would rather have one n enjoy it without the bowel issues if i had more. Best wishes to all đź’•

It's trial and error (like with everything under the IBD sun) generally alcohol can be hard on the colon let alone if you have any gut issues like IBD and/or IBS. I have both IBD and IBS, and I can tolerate a few glasses of hard liquor (usually vodka with cranberry juice cuz I like to keep it healthy lol) but some people will have dire consequence's just from one small alcoholic beverage...you won't know until you try, what if any affect it will have, even so, I don't drink very often, less that 10 times/year but when I do drink, I have more than just one drink and haven't noticed it makes anything worse for either my IBD or IBS.

There is no known drug interaction with Humira and alcohol. Always drink in moderation. If you're prescribed any other medications be sure to check for interactions as there are some that should not be taken with any alcohol.
