Hi, all
I have headaches that tend to be severe when my stomach pain is severe, and fine when my stomach feels okay. With normal headaches, Tylenol helps. But, Tylenol doesn't help these headaches (and I'm allergic to aspirin). In 6 months, I haven't found a workable solution -- not even my usual relaxation tricks. I've read that headaches can coincide with anemia, which I do have, but the headaches really seem to coincide with the stomach pain more than anything. Have others experienced this, and does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks in advance!

I've experienced headaches as well when I am in a flare. I am very anemic though to the point where my GI almost wants to get me iron through an IV. I have a really high tolerance for head aches, so I usually wait them out, but if it's really bad, I'll take two extra strength tylenol and that does the trick. You might be dehydrated, so definitely drink plenty of fluids if you aren't already! I also find that a short nap helps and sometimes I get headaches when I'm hungry, so a small snack that agrees with you may help as well. :)

I get really bad tension headaches... I used to get them before get dx but lately they have increased ten fold! My whole back is killing me which I think it apart of it all as my hip is also inflammed which is something that I have never experience before my first flare last year. Joys of this disease.
By the way even if you weren't allergic to aspirin you shouldn't take it as its not good on the stomach.

Some of My headaches can come on Fast and Severe.
I finally got a referral. Neurologist.
Had Maxalt, Under tongue, Worked Great, Insurance company Changed it.
Then Sumatriptan,, Generic Imitrex nasal. Works really quick.
(more Expensive) Figure That one out?
There are others you can try that your doctor may well prescribe that are cheaper?
I tolerated Major headaches for alot of years.
They are for more Frequent with Bowel activity for sure.
Talk to your Dr. he/she may prescribe something no problem?
I was taking Mega doses of Tylenol, Way more than recommended 4000mg a day.
I still use Tylenol if it is a mild headache.
Hope you find a solution..........

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I'll start working on the ideas + investigating alternative meds.

If triptans are working (which is what all the drugs you mentioned are), you're having migraines. Triptans can be very effective, but you have to be careful how often you use them or you can get rebound headaches. Caffeine can cause these in migraineurs as well. If you suffer from migraines, it's best to avoid caffeine entirely. Adding 200 - 500 mg of Naproxen can greatly enhance the effectiveness of triptans. But again, overuse of OTC pain meds can result in MORE headaches occurring and I personally find any NSAID (like Naproxen) really fires up my gut.

Life's so consistent with that "give with one hand, take away with the other" way it has of sucking, isn't it? :mad2:

David you are Right, thanks to Gut Problems, Caffeine, Mountain Dew has been cut down to maybe one a week. No coffee ever.
I did the Cold Turkey from Tylenol to see about rebound headaches.
aspirin gets to my stomach also.
It had been so long back I forgot about this.
Thanks for the insight...
