Healing 'Naturally'

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

Some of the herbal products can have calming and soothing effects on the intestines and are also natural antinflammatory agents... Other ones are gonna be a herbal laxative which will cause your food to pass through to quickly and may cause severe pain and blockage... I hated that video... If you have any kind of narrowing you can't eat high fiber foods and you have limit your meat to lean meats that digest easy... Yes you should stay away from proccssed foods and sugar but eating nuts and berries may kill you...

Those articles always cause more harm than good cause they till people about "other alternatives" without actually telling them what the alternative is so they go out to a health food store buy some stuff from someone that generally knows nothing about crohn's or UC or herbs that will help/harm you.... Go home.... they may get a lot more sick.... they may get better.... It's like playing russian rulete with your intestines when you do that....

Read up on your own medical history figure out what is exactly wrong with you as respects to narrowings, fistulas, other crap then go look at herbs to help with the stuff... Not the other way around....

I agree with you.

The videos seem to be made for people without the illness. And give the wrong impression. To me it gives the impression that something this severe, and as you said it, chronic, can be dealt with so easily.

Hippies. That's who works at and goes to the health food store. It's the new hippie. It's funny, because if I was alive during the 60's I would've been one, maybe? Tea and powdered greens, and the probiotics and flushes, and vitamins that make your urine look radioactive:ylol2: None of that crap works, not for me anyway. Wish I had my money back though. I don't even want to watch that video. I love how all my friends who are involved with the multi-level marketing of supplements are all calling me..."dude, this Korean guy cured his cancer with these vitamins... you really need to try them! And did I mention, If you can get 3 people under you you'll make some extra cash too!":ybatty: :ybatty: :ybatty: :ybatty: No thanks, I'll stick to my rat protein, lose my mind on steroids, and eliminate my immune system, because I'm sooooo much smarter than that Korean guy!:ylol2: :ylol2: :ylol2:

Starbelly some of the stuff can help but that is all it is going to do is help...

When the side effects of the meds are very bad and acute the help can be a lot more prominate... When the side effects of the meds are not acute then you will only notice them a little... And that is only if your taking the right stuff.... You still have to take your meds though because no herbal supplement will do what the precription crohn's meds do...

But it's worth looking into if you have money to spend on stuff other than all your meds, bills, etc because some of the stuff can make you feel better...

It ain't gonna get rid of the crohn's though.... Granted the prescription medcine won't get rid of crohn's either... Gotta love having a crohnic illness that their is no long term cure for only medcine that treats the current symptoms and then that medcine will more than likely cause long term problems 20 years down the road from cancer and other complications...

Such a fun and happy disease we have but remember to drink your chinese herbal tea so you can do back flips LOL!

GNC sounds so smart in every reply, thats one post that I will stop and read through every thread, (no offense others, I might be in a hurry), usually agree with him.

Remicade and these types of drugs for crohns, that do specific things like take the inflammation cells out of the blood stream are made for a reason. There are underlying causes that we dont really understand as of right now. Supplements are only going to make symtoms and signs less noticeable, in my eyes anyways.

I have had some luck with SOME vitamins and supplements.

I have tried probiotics...the garden of life brand, although most people I've talked to say that they didnt see a difference and its just a waste of money. It made me have almost formed stools with an illiostomy...your colon is what removes the liquid mostly, so to have just your small bowel almost form a stool is a pretty amazing feat. I've also taken digestive enzymes, which help break down protiens, dairy, carbs, and fats I think there might be another, but I'm not sure. I believe they help a lot with dairy for me. When I flare, and only when I flare, I'm lactose intolerant, but not of everything dairy, just plain milk or ice cream, I can each cheeses and such things like this. But after taking just one digestive enzyme after drinking a whole glass of milk, (they recommend, like 2 to 4 I believe), I didnt vomit, feel nasueas, bloated, or indegestion at all. So those were well worth the 9.99 I paid for them. I also picked up some b-12 vitamins the other week, they were only like 5 dollars or so, and it has 3333%of your daily need of b-12 I think, its something way over/off the wall. It says I can take it like 3 or 4 times a day, I only take it 2 times a week, because come on 3,333% of your daily value is to much. I take it because I've had 29cm of terminal illieum removed and that is the part of your intestine that absorbs, vitamins, A,D,E,K, B-12, and B-12 is what gives you your 'energy'. I take a brand of Acidiphillus that I just picked up at the local farm fresh(grocery store w/ pharmacy), it had the biggest amount in it so I chose it. You only have to take 2 of them, and really if I dont take any digestive enzymes, or probiotics, I still see the difference in stool formation by just taking the Acidiphillus. I think it cant hurt to try some/certain vitamins and supplements, I woudl let your GI know though, that way if there is a change for the better, maybe he can take you off of some meds or play with the dose and see how you react. Also....If you dont have co-pays for prescriptions anyways, just treat buying the vitamins and supplements as your co-pay for your actual doctor prescribed prescriptions.

Ok I just now realized I was talking to myself I guess, because I started this thread. Oh well, some pretty good knowledge someone can use, and GNC man can come and add in his input, this is his expertise, the the expert in abcesses/surgery/pain management, and hospital stays. lol. Probably a few more if I thought about it but those are the major ones.

i eat a lot of yogurt ( i guess a weaker acidophilus supplement), drink a lot of water, and im about to start having the mangosteen juice shake and b12. so far just having a lot of yogurt has extremely decreased my problems.
will this just hide the fact that my crohn is getting worse? i doubt it, if it stops inflammation, it slows down crohns! what do you think skinsfan/gnc ?

i havent taken medication in a little more than a year, and had a strict diet and its worked. the ccfa says anything i eat will have nothing to do with Crohns.... isnt slowing inflammation down the goal?

omega 3-6-9 is a natural anti-inflammatory, maybe you could pick some of those up.

I used to eat a lot of yogurt it would help with digestion, also I think it has another bacteria in it lacto-(something long).

I also take some b12 vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin D, probiotics, acidiphillus, digestive enzymes.

Actually the omega 3 fatty acids can help with inflamation a little not much... Omega 6 can help cause inflamtion.... So stay away from extra omega 6 such as from flax seed oil unless you are allergic to fish... You get your main source of Omega 3 fatty acids from fish... That would be EPA and DHA... LA and ALA are found in Flax Seed Oil... LA can be converted by your body into EPA and DHA but your body really doesn't like converting it unless it has too...

The main goal is to prevent inflmation in the intestines yes... Drinking Aloe Vera juice (I'm probably going to start forcing myself to drink it) I know helps to soothe and calm the intestines... The mangostein juice may have natural antinflamatory properties but I dunno... When I looked for stuff about it last thier was no kind of evidence to support it one way or the other... In cases like that I say give it a shot.... Worst it can do is hurt you best it can do is help you .... But again when trying new supplements only introduce one into your body at a time so that way you know what is doing what for you otherwise you won't know what is helping you and what is a waste of time/money...
