Is it a common side effect of Prednisone to sometimes get a pounding and rapid heart beat? Or should I call my Dr?

I get it from Prednisone as well, but now I have permanant tachycardia I would have it checked out if I were you. They can do a stress test and an EKG just to make sure, if your heart is to rapid they can prescribe a beta blocker to help.

I talked to my Dr about this today and he said the Prednisone causes that. He said as long as the beats are below 100 I'm fine :)

Nica, I noticed you have tried Immuran and Remicade. How did that work for you and why aren't you taking it anymore? That was the drugs he mentioned today at my visit to possibly start on or maybe Remicade or maybe both. Just curious!

Sara,

Immuran gave me pancreantitis. (like 1 in a 350,000 shot of that happening!) I was intolerant to remicade, lots of pain all over, flu like symptoms, just miserable so they took me off that too.

Bless your heart! I guess it's all a "try and see how our body reacts" kinda thing for us all.
Thanks for the info :)

Sounds like your Dr. felt 80 beats or fewer were best for you.

technically, for a "typical" adult, under 100 resting heart rate beats per minute (after 5 minutes at rest) is considered normal. Different rules apply if you have an infection or major illness. Tachycardia = rapid heart rate.

Tachycardia is normal for me on prednisone.

The doctor prescribed ativan to help to relax me as I find it quite bothersome at bedtime.

I also take Cymbalta.

Sara Im on the both of those and Ive thankfully had great success on them. Still gaining weight which is good and pretty near remission. Ive had 3 treatments. Luckily I saw results the very night I started but that varies greatly from person to person. Im achy all over at times and have some troubles sleeping but have to say its been more than worth it. Good luck
