What the heck!!! Tonight after eating dinne (brown rice and tomato sauce, while my friends ate spaghetti...) I got heartburn for the first time in my life. SO, SO, SO painful. What does this mean?? I've always just had issues in my small intestine...aahh and now esophagus? I desperately chugged almond milk (the only thing I could think of that would cool it down) but it didn't go away for a good while..I couldn't even talk to tell my friends who were over what was going on, it hurt so bad. Like fire in my chest or something. Does this happen to crohn's people? or do I have something ELSE now? I was all over the internet googling ways to get rid of it, meanwhile my throat was in FLAMES and the first site I went it said "gum"...definitely did not work to chew gum. Then my roommate got me a ginger kombucha, which is apparently the miracle drink, because it went away in about 5 minutes after I started drinking it. Thank goodness. Anyway, I hope this doesn't become a pattern. Has anyone had experiences with upper GI stuff, even if the disease usually sits in the small intestine? Very disconcerting...

I, like you, never suffered heartburn (acid reflux) in my life until I developed Crohn's. In fact, it was one of my first symptoms that prompted me to go to my doctor. He treated me for a peptic ulcer for six months with Omeprazole and then Esomeprazole. This seemed to stop the acid coming up, but only dulled the pain.

Now I suffer from it every now and again, but nothing serious. I just accept it as one of those things I have to put up with! Having said that, I think i might have to investigate this ginger kombucha drink you mentioned... :)

I got dx with acid reflux a few years after being dx with crohns and lemme tell ya, tomatoe is one of the worst things for me to cause heartburn.

I didn't get much heartburn before getting Crohn's. Now drinking water even seems to give me heartburn.

I too never had heartburn until Crohn's. I take Prilosec for it (Omeprazole) one pill every morning. My husband was kinda laughing when I got it, he has had it for years. I was totally freaking out, had no idea what was happening. He was like....um, I think it's heartburn...have you never felt that? I think he was shocked.

i get heartburn and acid reflux (tho the endo said i was good). i get heartburn from broccolli rabe (which SUX because my step grandparents are italian and it's at every big meal) and surprisingly when i take my centrum so i plan on getting kids vitamins. and i get that horrible gross acidic taste in the back of my throat sometimes when i eat too much moes, or spaghetti, or just too much in general but they said it was ok. my worst gi symptom tho is nausea. i get it nearly everyday and it doesn't matter what i eat, how much i eat, or if i even eat at all. it's terrible.

with you tho, the tomato sauce (possibly in conjuntion with the brown rice as brown rice is not kind to my intestines) is what did you in. i put very little sauce on; just enough to taste and make it look a little different. i use maybe 2 tablespoons and that guess is probably a generous guess. try to stay away from the tomato sauces, brown rice, and garlic (if it had any).
