Hi I decided to check out this forum and have been interested in hopefully finding some answers and support. Okay to make this story as short as possible. I have had IBS for about 10 years now. This past 4 to 5 years have been troubling. I have had polyps (3 now) removed and in April had my colonoscopy show Peptic Ulcer Disease on test. I have had 2 rectal abscess's and the second one had a fistula. I spent the weekend in the hospital back in June. Cat scan showed I had focal thickening in two areas on test with inflammation. Had a colonoscopy today that showed everything looked normal, but did biopsies. I have had small bowel follow through that was normal. I also have GIRD, have had Nissan fundiplication done and now have aphasia as well. Been having many issues including fevers and infections, staying sick all the time with something. My question and concern is that all these symptoms support Crohn's Disease and doctor in hosptial thought it was that, but if this colonoscopy only showed internal and external hemorrhoids and normal other stuff, what could this be? I am so confused and been dealing with pain and extreme diarrhea for a very long time!

It sounds just like crohns, you should push it more to your doctor. Just because they didnt find anything doesnt mean its not there.

On a side note....My last dog was named Gidget, She was a golden retreiver that lived till 16 years old. Great memories...

:welcome: Gidget to the forum. I know you are confused and frustrated, but I can assure you that finding Crohns in some people are very hard, some may only be microscopically infected or leaking. That happened to me and it took a years testing, and poking and ER visits to finally get a diagnosis. Colonoscopies dont always show. Biopsies have to be taken in the exact spot and that is difficult, some gi's may not take enough samples and therefore missed. IBS is a condition, not a disease, and most likely with your symptoms you very well could have Crohns. Don't give up, change doctors if you have to. Gird and Hiatus hernias are also Crohn's related.

Hope you get answers soon, update us with any further test, meanwhile glad you joined us, great bunch to help you here! :)

Hi Gidget and welcome!!! Are you taking any medications? I agree with Jet, it's way too serious just to be ibs. Ethan's right too, you need to insist on answers. Good luck:)

Hi Gidget
and welcome

I agree with the others, seek a second opinion, cos there's too much going on to be IBS, this is a functional disorder, Crohns is a disease, and just cos the scope didn't show anything, there could still be inflammation there, there are other alternative investigations to try. It's very frustrating I know, been there done that for donkey's years!
Hang on in there and I hope you get some answers soon and some appropriate meds too
lotsa luv

Thanks for the reply. I am not giving up. I am tired of not knowing and having pain with no relief. My mother-in law and sister in-law have it, so I am familiar with the disease. Never would of thought I would have it but after my hospitalization three weeks ago, I began to wonder. I have the nickname of Gidget because I am very short only 4 ft 10, and my friend of 29 years gave me the nickname and said I reminded her of Sally Fields and the old showing the Flying Nun! I love Sally Fields and wish I could look as good as her at her age and would love a little of that money too, lol!:ysmile:

Hi,
My mother in law was misdiagnosed for many years to the point that she has a colostomy bag and is flaring up again. She is now on Humera for hers, the shots and it seems to be working right now. I just like most of you just want some pain relief and sense of normalcy so I can work and pay bills.

Hi Dexky,
I appreciate your feedback and see that you are recently diagnosed. I just came to this new office in Greenville NC and he promised me that he would figure out what was going on. They also did blood test too in order to get an indication of Crohn's. I go back to the doctor on July 23 to get results and I am anxious!

Hi Astra,
Thanks for your reply. This forum is great! I do hope to hear something soon. It is frustrating when everyone thinks there is nothing wrong and that you spend to much time on the net researching, but they do not deal with the pain. I had never heard of the abscesses until I had them. I had emergency surgery for those, so tell me I am a paranoid person. I didn't start researching Crohn's until recently. I just kept telling them there was something wrong, but my docs in Goldsboro didn't care to try to figure it out. I have been seeing this new doctor since April. He is doing all he can to figure it out, I was just shocked that only three weeks after the Cat scan showed inflammation that the test looked normal. If the biopsies are normal then I will be back at square one again. That is frustrating!

Hi Dexky,

Hey Gidget, just wanted to be clear, I don't have crohn's it's my son. Hope you are enjoying the forum!!

Oh Ok, how old is he because my ten yr old niece is going through tests next week, not sure what is going on with her? I know no one else in my family with history of Crohn's or anything. Just trying to figure if hereditary or just my luck! Thanks

Hi Gidget :bigwave:

I hope you get some answers soon. Before my daughter was diagnosed with CD she had many tests and they all came back normal, so I had to keep fighting and insisting that there something was wrong. Don't give up it's worth the fight!

I'm glad you found us and I hope we can help you with your journey.

Take care,
Dusty
