Hi!
My name's Beka. I'm 22 and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis today. My symptoms started in early March and after reviewing my colonoscopy and biopsies, my gastroenteroligist finally gave me my answer. Im starting lialda and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this drug. About 2 weeks ago my symptoms went away almost completely (before starting any meds). My Dr said that the goal of the lialda is to keep me in remission. Fingers crossed! Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi :)

Hey. I'm in the same boat as you almost, 22 years old but have been diagnosed for 4 years now. Currently nothing has been working really and I have a colonoscopy scheduled for this week to take a new direction. My Dr. said that lialda could most likely be the next option. So I could be starting it soon as well, but I don't know much about it. I also heard the remission is nice, hah, so I hope it works for you. Anyways, welcome to the forums, it's a great place to talk to other people in the same situation. If you have any other questions about it just ask!

Hi Beka and welcome! I'm glad you found your way here. Thank you for sharing your story though I'm sorry to hear of the UC diagnosis :(

Lialda is a formulation of a medicine called "Mesalamine". Lialda is specifically formulated to release in a manner where it targets the colon which is what makes it good for Ulcerative Colitis. You'll see people refer to other formulations of Mesalamine such as Pentasa, Asacol, and others. We have a subforum dedicated to these medications under the "Treatment" forum or just click on that link.

Again, welcome!

Hello Beka and welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear about the recent diagnosis, you have definetly come to the right place for helpful info and support regarding this disease. I have not been on Lialda specifically myself but will keep fingers crossed that it does the job for you.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

I happy just to have a diagnosis. Not knowing what was going on with my body was awful!

Ethan, if you do end up starting the Lialda, I really hope it helps you! I've read a lot of pretty good reviews. One thing though, it's pretty expensive so I'd highly suggest getting the pharmacy savings card from their website. It saved me a bunch.

I will definitely go read those threads you pointed me to David. Thanks!
