Hi, I've had Crohn's for 10 years now (I'm 23, male)
I was diagnosed at age 13 after having it for about a year or so and it stunted my growth a little (I'm 5'6, an inch shorter than my dad now that I'm fully grown.) I've also always been somewhat skinny.
As for symptoms, the only ones I've experience regularly throughout my 10 years (in periods lasting several months) are bloody bowel movements and sometimes mild stomach discomfort or diarreah.
I've been on Asacol, Purinitol, and some vitamins the entire time.
When I was first diagnosed I was on prednizone for a very short period.
I've had two colonoscopys. In the first one, ~10 years ago, I didnt handle the sedatives well and felt sick all day. After my second one, which was a few months ago, all I remember is waking up from a nice nap (thanks to new anti-nausia sedative medications) so I didn't mind.
I haven't had surgery for Crohn's before and am hoping I'll never need to.
I also have blood drawn every few months for Prometheus lab tests and blood irritation tests (I think it's called that?)
And every few years I take a barium X-ray test and an ultrasound exam.
The doctor never changes my dosage, so I assume that means I'm doing fine, despite the bloody stools.
In my long time with Crohn's I've never felt 'sick' and in fact I probably couldn't tell I have a disease if not for the bloody bowel movements and the pills I drink every day, so I guess I've been lucky.
Anyways it's good meeting you all and I'm happy that there's a site for people with Crohn's.
